If I may be allowed to brag a bit, the painting won the Best of Show prize at the annual Birds of the Southwest Art Show, held at Bear Mountain Lodge in Silver City, NM.

Best in show - I'm not a bit surprised. Not just the excellent technique, with the perfect light/dark and warm/cool balance, but that expression on its face . . "I hate this ****ed snow!!" Love it.

Thank you! That year(when the photo that I was working from was taken)was kind of magical.Β We actually had snow!Β And a flock of meadowlarks--about 15 or so--were happy to discover that I was handing out breakfast.Β This was much easier than having to dig through the snow while foraging for scraps, so I had a yard full of these guys.

When I moved in to my new house, I started feeding the birds right off....one day I looked out in the yard and saw a meadowlark(the first I had ever seen).Β I was thrilled!Β The next day, there wrre two....soon almost a dozen were showing up every day for their breakfast when there was snow on the ground.Β That was two years ago.Β They still show up every Winter, but not as many, unless there is snow on the ground(whicih I assume makes it had to forage).Β Β
