Description
First I must confess this is a composite photo. Both the kayaker and Manatee were there at the same time, but I couldn’t get them lined up like this. It was really impossible because I have little control of where the Manatee goes and absolutely no control of the Kayaker, Captain Tess, my wife. The location is 3 sisters spring in the Crystal River area of Florida. During the Winter the Manatees gather there because the spring water is warmer than the ocean/bay water. Manatees are large (~3 meters long x 1,000 Kg) plant eating mammals. It is hard to believe that Christopher Columbus mistook them for mermaids, but 60 days at sea (not on a Love Boat) can warp a man’s mind.
