Hmm... Maybe all the superhero anime boys are secretly huge dicks

Or maybe they want a partner who's relatively stable, considering they have to deal with all kinds of magical nonsense in their work lives

Personally, I'd go for an unconventionally cute yet nice guy-kinda like Rock Lee. (If my icon wasn't already indication enough.)

Some shounen protagonists are just so bland and cliche...Not that that's always a bad thing, but still, they aren't as interesting.

Oh. I'd been waiting for this to go onto Deviant Art because I was hoping you'd add more explanation in the description... but ya din't.Β I recognise the stereotypes of chibi catgirl, angel/goddess and robot girl here, but what's the first girl meant to be? Elf? Vampire? Werewolf? Alien?

I recognise the trope though -- alien/magical/supernatural/part-animal/robot/whatever girl falls for normal/nerdy/dorky/insecure but overall kindly boy who normally has terrible luck in a kind of wish fulfilment fantasy of boys who read those kinds of comics or watch those kinds of shows. Occasionally she'll even be fighting for his attention against other love interests (that's the part that's hardest to believe, ha).
Funny how there's not really any female role reversal of these, with normal girls and magical puppy boys or djinns or angel boys or something.

Probably, I just mean there seems to be far more normal-guy-with-magical-girlfriend(s) in manga than the other way around, but at least there are a few reversals of the trope.

Haha, good point, but I meant more in the case of Japanese media it seems a bit one sided. Also, there's a lot of catgirls and no catboys, even when they're a species, how's that even work?

LapisRune In reply to MawileMage [2015-06-09 12:30:09 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like the beginning of every anime sitcom lol. There's a LOT of 'harem' anime where one boy lives/interacts with a number of girls on a regular basis. Negima, Tenchi Muyo, Evangelion, to name a few in different genres. Vampire Knight, Pretear, and Wall Flower would be considered a 'reverse harem' anime with a single girl and a bunch of gorgeous boys fawning over her. And same sex harems are even harder to find.

Genisay In reply to CaptainQuirk [2015-06-09 17:16:23 +0000 UTC]

Haha, it did happen to Ranma and Tenchi a bit. Β For me though, the ones that always pop to mind the strongest for this are pretty much anything by Ken Akamatsu, and Keitaro took the cake. Β That poor boy finds himself in that situation /so/ many times, and has so many different girls to work about. (And thank you. Β Been a while since I've read Love Hina, so I was pretty sure I'd messed up Kei's name)
