And I got to thinking....what if Nala had agreed to be Scar's mate (he tried to seduce her in the broadway show). She'd be queen of the new Pride lands....no one could over power Scar, and with Nala on his side, they stood no chance.

And what of Simba? Or Zira?

Zira would probably try to kill Nala to get to Scar and Scar would banish her. On her own, she finds her way aaaaall the way out to the desert, where she stumbles upon the oasis where Simba is....

She tells him what's been happening--knowing that he is the rightful king--and that the Pridelands are dying.

Then blah blah....

However, what Simba doesn't know, is that Nala is on Scar's side now. He stands no chance of over powering Scar, as Nala tricks him and has him cornered.

However, as Simba lay beaten on the ground (curtesy of Scar--Zira is busy with the hyenas) Nala can't bear to see her childhood friend die before her eyes. So she tells Scar to banish Simba, Zira, and all the followers of Mufasa.

A few months later, Kovu and Vitani are born to Scar and Nala, and Kiara is born to Simba and Zira.

Which is where this pic comes in. Kovu is prince of the new Pridelands, and Kiara is the ragtag chosen one.

It's most likely by this point, Simba eventually died from his wounds, leaving Zira to raise little Kiara on her own. She's still angry at Scar and Nala, and wants revenge for being banished. And for her new lover's death.
