Description
a freelance project i've been working on with a game dev for the past month.Āwill be posting more stuff on this
it's a side-scrolling open world co-op action survival as described by the dev
the player gets transported without explanation into this foreign alien world and must survive in it while meeting other people who have been struck by the same fate.
for now, here's the key art i did to be used by the game dev for future pitches of the project to a game publisher.
the dev emphasized wanting to show this alien world with its teeming ecosystem, while showing the main character being an inexperienced new-comer in this world having to fend for them self from the dangerous fauna

This already looks incredible! In terms of action survival, would it just be a matter of killing aliens and exploiting resources to build bases and such? It would be cool to have a game like that where the point was to integrate and become friendly with the world, not just fight in it

I don't want to say too much about the conversations an ideas being thrown around with the dev,
but we do have this idea of the players as they're uncovering the lore of what happened in this world (pretty subnautica-esque) would learn that what they are doing has been harming their ecosystem.
and I suggested that maybe upon that realization the player might choose how they want to address it, maybe having to change the way they manage and process their resources in a meaningful way that actually forces the player to sacrifice some things they've been building up to that point.
the idea of a base-building survival game that asks the players to be sustainable in their base-building sounds very interesting to me. How well that can actually translate in a real game or how people will react to that is a completely different thing and I'm definitely no game designer so I have no clue, that would be on the dev's part to decide I guess.

Oh wow! Well, in any case, there's a lot of potential in the premise! Hopefully you'll get to show a lot more of it in the future! ^_^

So the game is like Ark, Survival Evolved, but with aliens?
EPIC
