Location: ThailandCarpenter bee (on right) was on this plant for ages, now and again sharing it with assorted visitors.

I believe it is a Carpenter bee. He's a sort of very dark blue-black, with amazingly iridescent wings.

Yes, I was lucky. The big Carpenter bee was the perfect subject so it was just a mater of waiting around for something else to join him. There were a few things buzzing about.
