Description

The Wintelesian are a small, somewhat stocky species of sapient reptilians from the planet Vara Sun, corewards of the Suuk. Their state, the Wintelesian Commonwealth, is closely affiliated with the Groth and a major ally of it in the Garician Worlds region.

Standing on average at 1.4 meters, the wintelesian body closely resembles Earth theropod, with a broad torso, short tail, long necks and a bipedal stance, however their body is covered in a smooth, green leathery skin instead of scales. Their large heads ends with a prominent pointed chin, atop which sits their large mouth that is formed from four parts: two traditional, horizontal parts and two large insect like mandibles on each side, each ending in large fangs. Their four eyes give them very acute vision which coupled with numerous spikes doting their bodies, which are extremely sensitive to sound and act as additional sensory impute, give the wintelesian unrivaled spatial awareness and reaction time. Two long fleshy tendrils sprout backwards from behind their necks, acting mostly as display.

The wintelesian use their acute senses and strong physique to hunt in small packs in the cold, polar taigas which dominate large parts of both hemispheres, Vara Sun being a fairy cold world. Though they are hunters, and can be vicious when on the prow, the wintelesian are fairy placid for most of their lives, a necessity in order to conserve energy as they can go for weeks with no food in the wild. This has lead to a widespread culture of patience and perseverance among the hundreds of groups which have arisen over the millennia, as well as a great reverence for the hunt and a deep cultural reverence towards nature and the harshness of life in general. The Wild as it became known, is the animistic 'deity' that is most spread among the wintelesian, less of a god or even spirit as it is the personification of nature, a non-sapient, uncaring aspect of life that both puts them in harshness and provides all one needs to survive; for the ancient wintelesians, life was always harsh and uncaring, and so their culture developed to be harsh and uncaring in return. The well being and survival of the tribe as a whole is paramount, with all resources shared among it and very little in the way of personal property.

The leaders of the tribes, and later the great tribal nations, are the great Shaman Warriors, those individuals which have survived for longest and have provided the tribes with the greatest benefits- great warriors, hunters and in the eyes of the wintelesians the conduits of the Wild through which the Wild shows them how to live on.

Over time as the tribes and groups came into contact with each other and formed both rivalries and friendship (mostly as convenience, at first), several large tribal nations, consisting of dozens of tribes with millions of members, scattered mostly in the norther forests in great fortress cities, emerged to dominate the landscape of Vara Sun. By the time they advance enough to transmit radio signals in space and be detected by spacefaring civilizations, three great nations rose to prominence, battling for supremacy and to access the more fertile but scattered lands at the equator to feed their growing populations. Around the year 1860, a great war between the two largest was abruptly interrupted as a number of Groth ships crash landed in the third's territory after loosing a battle against the League, with which it was in conflict in a great galactic war. As the war between the two wintelesian nations was put on hold to deal with the potential threat, the Groth arrived to rescue any survivors, which had been taken into custody. Thanks to the wintelesians cautious and preserved nature, first contact went smoothly and the survivors were quickly returned; after the end of the Groth War, the aliens, specifically the voir, returned in order to repay the benevolence and understanding of the now emerging species, offering great gifts of technology and science in return for a voir base being set up on the planet to act as a forward base in their spying operations against the GW.

Over the next few centuries, as the tribal nations unified into one larger entity, the Commonwealth, and as their technology and science advance the wintelesians grew quickly from a backwater primitive species into a fairy advance if small power on the edge of the GW. Through their generosity, the voir firmly brought the wintelesians and the Commonwealth into the Groth sphere of influence, and its location makes Vara Sun a major hub for the Groth's supply lines as it sits in an ideal locations, making it a rich and well developed world, and allowing the wintelesians to hold quite a bit of power despite their relative youth.
