lol! To be fair though, they have them in Japan and in England too (and probably in other countries as well).
There's a couple at a library I go to (for the convenience of the elderly, pregnant women, etc). I kind of find them cute. xD

I've seen a lift for 6 steps also. an elevator to go up 2 1/2 feet! For both of these, it would be cheaper just to have a ramp.

As far as i know escalators were made so people can move faster rather than stand there, but yeah people are lazy and it still seems pointless to have escalators for just 6 steps >.>

Only in America can you:
- Order a double cheeseburger, large fries and a diet coke.
- Find handicap parking at a skating rink.
- Get a pizza to your house faster than an ambulance.
- Find drive-up ATMs with Braille lettering.
- Find both doors to the vault of a bank open but all their pens chained to the counters.
- Park your expensive cars in the driveway but store all your useless junk in the garage.
- Find a drugstore that makes the sick walk to the back of the store for medicine but have the healthy buy cigarettes from the front.

Honestly, for the people who are saying it's for people with carriages and stuff, I think they could have splurged for a ramp, all though they are bit pricey, you know compared to an escalator.

It probably is for people with carriages, crutches, older people, people who can't handle staircases, like that. Ramps need more space. A ramp with the same width as that staircase is way too steep, and if there isn't enough space to build a suitable ramp then what? So escalators aren't that far off.
Still it's hilarious to see such tiny escalators 8D
