... This is only a couple of years late : DI have no idea what they were thinking when they made Klonoa sound like a 30 year old guy in the remake. I laughed like crazy trough all the 'oh-so-sad' scenes, thanks to the voice acting. I mean, when I watched some cutscenes in Youtube, I couldn't torture my ears during the actual gameplay( I support gibberish so I changed the language). The characters weren't themselves anymore either. All blank and lifeless.
They had also given Hewpoe/Huepow/Hurrderp all the dialogue Klonoa originally had, leaving Klonoa no other lines than this awfully useless "RIGHT!".
...And this is how I felt.
Not saying the remake was a bad game, I really appreciate that the series that never sold that well got another chance.

I sadly have to confess back when I was a very dumb child I liked the English Dub of the Wii Remake. I was a kid and I didn't know better xD
And I can agree with you, his English voice really wasn't Klonoa. Not saying it was bad, but it would fit Klonoa only if he was more mature, like adultish. He's a freaking child in the games xD
That's why I'm very happy the game has the option to be changed to Japanese or the fan made language(which is very creative and beautifulΒ :'3) that the other games always had.
Also can we stop and look at how beautiful Huepow and Klonoa look at the above drawing? That's the definition of Kawaii.Β

Exactly! It's like they tried to turn him into some Sonic character. I hope they don't ruin his character like that in the movie.

I actually voice Klonoa sometimes myself. I may be a teenage girl, but its sounds much better than whatever college drop-out they hired to voice Klonoa. He's not a BAD actor, just not Klonoa. I hope the movie hires a good voice actor.

As a child I considered the remake to be my least favorite game ever, the graphics were murky, the English voice acting was AWFUL as it removed any emotion in scenes like Grandpa's death and the ending (Thank GOD for the Phantomilian option), and the difficulty made an already easy game much easier to the point where a complete noob would beat it at least 2 hours as in the original it would be about 3-5 hours.
I don't hate the remake as much now (I now find it kind of meh), but I'd much rather play the original than this. But this could have made the games Ratchet and Clank or even Crash Bandicoot popular if they advertised this game more as "spoon-feedingly" easy and soulless as it is compared to the original.
Thank god the developers didn't fuck up the Ratchet and Clank (as terribly cliche as the story was in that game as well as the toned down difficulty, but the decent voice acting and the top notch graphics didn't make it as bad as Klonoa) and Crash Bandicoot remake.

Ok... i still don't know how or why it took me so long,i only got klonoa on the ps2 back in november and i beat it yesterday, klonoa seems to be the ONLY plaforming game series im actually decent at xD *dem gba games are a bitch to me though, they get pretty nasty with pluzzles* but i love the series to death and the wii game was the very first one i got to own, and i only got the ps2 and all 3 gameboy games in the last few months. but i really wish namco would pull their heads out of their asses and try to revive him *NAMCO IM STILL WAITING FOR A HD KLONOA 2 RE-RELEASE!*

I got the Wii remake and Klonoa 2 first, I'd love to see a Klonoa remake like Crash Bandicoot, that would be pretty great!

Yeah, i really enjoyed klonoa heroes the most tbheven though i couldn't read any of the text nor menu's the little emotion boxes were expressive and i was able to quickly catch on to what was going on most of the time. and i'll admit it gave me a bigger challenge than most video games do nowadays (only game from recent times ive had a hard time with was pokemon ultra sun and moon, that shit got pretty difficult at times)

As a person that's played almost all of the Klonoa games, I would say that the weakest game is Klonoa Heroes, don't get me wrong, it's still pretty good but it wasn't up to the standards of Klonoa 1 (PS1 version) and Klonoa 2

Toootally agree, I was really hyped about the remake, being a long-time fan after all, and I got so disappointed. Even the Phantomilian language seemed somehow washed out, it just felt really rushed. It was nearly impossible to get killed with all the extra hearts the game now had and just... aaah, I could rant about everything that's wrong with it. Just a while ago I watched some gameplay and scenes on youtube to check if it was REALLY as bad as I remembered... it was even worse.
Ratchet and Clank and Crash are both very famous franchises that could afford larger budgets to at least offer something worthwhile to people.
Klonoa's revival with such a half-assed attempt was just ridiculous, only few knew the games and the developers definitely didn't put enough effort to get new fans either.
I'm still somewhat bitter about the remake because it pretty much killed the series for me. :'D I kind of like to pretend it doesn't even exist. Still love the original PS games though.

Seriously, if Klonoa 3 will ever see the light of day, hopefully it wont be a game, that tries to be "cool" and appealing to the masses ( dat horrendous american design for klonoa). The voice acting wasΒ crap and lacked any Emotion with Klonoas va sounding like a bad Sonic ripoff. 10 friggin lifepoints, as if the game wasnt easy enough already. Ingame cutscenes looked dull and lifeless. Granpa kept his smoke while dieing( SERIOUSLY?????). Its a shame, because like everyone else, i had high hopes, that the Remake could make the most underrated Videogame Franchise come back to life.

It's like the new development team had no idea WHAT made the original game so awesome in the first place. It's the fact that it didn't try to pretend to be anything else it was. Β The original game was a cute, bittersweet piece of art in a form of a simple platformer. The remake was just a simple platformer with mediocre voice acting. Just no.

That bugs me so much, the spelling change is annoying too. I may draw Klonoa in the Wii outfit but Huepow is staying the same because he needs his hands darn it!

This is the one problem I had with the Wiimake and it's a pretty big one. Klonoa didn't say anything, the English acting/voices were awful and the character animation was stiff as a board.
At least they nailed the graphics and gameplay, but I think we'd all have appreciated the same effort put into the story too, considering that's what people remember most fondly about the original.

The wii version of Door to Phantomile was my first Klonoa game. I really enjoyed playing it, but the english voice acting deterred me a little, so I changed the language to Phantomilian; it sounded way better. I know that Paon's take on Door to Phantomile wasn't so great, but I'd love to see another Klonoa game in the future; I'd prefer that it be made by the original cast of Namco (Klonoa Works) , however.Β Klonoa is just too good a franchise to leave in the dust in my opinion.

Totally agree with this pic, and although the Klonoa remake itself wasn't too bad, Hewpoe hogging the dialogue and Klonoa having fewer lines was pretty unfair :/ not only does Klonoa's English voice sound like a poorly made 4Kidz dub, it just sounds....unnatural for him

I know I favourited this like EONS ago but I just recently decided to play the first game and this sprung on to my mind when remembering the remake.Β
I can't help but feel that current English Voice Klonoa makes him look like a modern Sonic-ripoff. The original was much cuter - not just "cute", but the way of cute that it's an inseparable aesthetic on the series.

I agree. But I have a feeling that was the intention of the developers... To make it "cool" so that kids would wanna play it > better sales (didn't work though, HA). It's such a waste too, the original actors are so great. Klonoa had to have to worst English actor of the game too.
I'd rather see the series die completely that watch it go the same way Sonic does. Baww.
