Description
WarriorsRewritten is a project between Iycanroc , tori-oislove and myself that aims to fill plot holes, fix inconsistencies, and apply proper feline genetics to the random sparklecats of the Warriors universe.Okaaay, so that makes the entire WR's into the wild RC allegiances (part 1 - part 2 - part 3 )... now that begs the question - do I continue drawing RC kitties, or throw myself at another clan? o3o
Genetics time~
Ottersplash: While she isn't unrealistic per se, her design does make for a LOT of issues with her offspring, what with none of her canon children being ginger, which, as a solid ginger-and-white, should be the main colour for any of Otter's kittens. Soo, to avoid Reedtail and co. going red-based, calico coat it was for Otter. She's also tabby, due to a lot of her kittens being tabbies themselves, while her husbando Timberfur himself is solid, and can't help out with that. Other than that... I liked Otter well enough in CP, she was a bit more of a rough gal than most girls in the series (though her idiocy in fighting whilst pregnant eludes me...) uwu'
Echomist: Now here was a problem. Firstly, Echo has at least one non-dilute kitten (Beetle), but is described as pale grey - as is her mate, Hailstar. Two dilutes = NO non-dilute children. So Echomist had to go black instead. She's also no tortie, which would be needed for Petaldust's canon looks, but I'll rather scrap the entire red gene instead. And finally, she's a medium shorthaired black smoke, bc of her two handsome sons needing to get their silver from somewhere, and it matches part of her canon look hehe. Eyes went green because it just fit. uvo My thoughts on Echo... not much really, but she was sweet for helping Crookedkit (though I had hoped she would have done more I mean seriously -.-)
Fallowtail: You're more or less like yourself - as a "light brown" it only made sense Fallow would either be solid fawn or lilac, and with a lilac niece (Sunfish), lilac it was~ uwo The only changes to Fallow would be, first of all the infamous BLUE EYES JESUS CHRIST, whiich went green just because. It fits, okay. Oh, and the tail, I might need to mention that - it's what you call a "longy tail" - since her brother has a short tail with no proof of being cut off, broken off etc. in his life, it made sense that perhaps the two of them have Manx-blood. And the Manx breed's shortened tail gene is varies a lot between almost normal-length, to non-existent. BUT, and this is important; use this gene with caution, because it is LETHAL if kittens inherit two Manx genes, and they'll die in the womb.
Cedarpelt: Hi buddy, now here's my favourite male character from CP I think - I just really liked him straight away haha. ;w; He's... not really changed in any way, he's still a buff, dark tabby, and the only thing I did was give him an eye colour (matches his sister), remove the idiotic "mottle" from his coat (it does NOT exist in cats) and give him a genetic reason for his lack of a tail, being that he's a rumpy, or rumpy riser as they call 'em. I don't really care so long as it explains his tiny tail.
Lakeshine: Another adorable queen, of which there were quite a few in RC. uvo She's almost exactly like her canon self, but now she's completely solid as opposed to the Erins' favourite description "mottled" WHICH, again, does NOT exist in cats. Sheesh. I also had quite a lot of fun with her white spotting, and was lenient enough to give her a set of pale blue eyes (thanks to the white gene) because it really did the trick in making her look sweet. <3
Greypool: Yeah here there ain't really any changes, she's dark blue, and she's got pale yellow eyes. Yep. I don't really care for Greypool all that much, she was just plot fodder and the ludicrous idea that she was an elder considering how young she was in canon thanks to CP... well we're gonna have to play off mental issues to save that sinking plotline.

I really enjoy this series of "fixing" the designs you guys are doing! Something I personally noticed while reading Crookedstar's Promise is how Graypool's and Willowbreeze' descriptions kind of... made no sense regarding their parents. Fallowtail and Reedfeather both get described as light brown, but they somehow pop out a dark gray and a pale silver kit? I see you decided to leave Fallow and Gray in their respective colors, so I wanted to ask if you have specific ideas on Reed and Willow to fix this mess (I apologize if you completed a design for either somewhere, I couldn't find any)?

I'm happy to hear it! And yes, I will be fixing the Reed-Fallow-Grey-Willow debacle alright, it really doesn't work the way it is at the moment. The best idea, if one keeps Fallow looking as she does in canon, is to redo Reedfeather as a black silver tabby - that way, you get the basis for both daughters' colours, and also salvages Willowbreeze's silvering. ;3

Yes, she would've looked lovely like that, but shadeds are harder to incorporate genetically speaking so I had to compromise a little. x3 But thank you very much!

Thank you very much, your words make me so happy. But it's hard to say, I've drawn since I could hold a pencil... but I began drawing cats seriously a few years ago, so I've been practicing hard now to get where I am now.

Your art is outstanding, I love the redesigns that you keep placing on such amazing characters. I would love to see a picture of White-eye with Mousefur and Runningwind as young warriors as such, I understand you're very busy, however, I think with your design and talent it would look amazing!

Here goes the lovely Ottersplash! I always loved that gal, and those tweaks you gave her design only improved her looks. I always liked that she was one of the more, as you put it, rougher she-cat who kept up with the warrior duties whenever possible. Echomist's complete redesign was unexpected, but her new look is so striking and beautiful, so how can I resist?
I admit I didn't think much of Cedarpelt and Lakeshine, except that Cedarpelt was a good mentor, but once again, you made them look so pretty and, in Lakeshine's case, so fluffy! Speaking about 'mottled' description, I admit I always thought it to refer to spotted/speckled patterns... though it doesn't help the cases where a cat was described as mottled and tabby at once, or mottled and some other pattern at once.

Got to admit that Cedarpelt and Lakeshine are my favourites here. xD Though I love Echomist and Ottersplash's new designs too.
Ah yes, the famous 'mottled' description. The Erins can't go anywhere without including one of those. I've been wondering what they meant... Maybe they were thinking of a smoke cat? That can look quite 'mottled' at times... xD Or maybe ticked tabbies (at a stretch)? Who knows? not me, that's for sure!

And indeed, mottle... hard to say, really - mostly they seem fond of just slapping the 'mottle' onto otherwise solid cats, or on tabbies which makes even less sense?? I have no clue either, honestly. xD

Gaaaah these are all so pretty!
One question I have regarding the Erin's descriptions and your interpretations though: Is it possible that when the Erins say "Mottled" they mean classic tabby?
Like, I understand things like the blue eyes and the legit sparkle-cat genes being nonos. But they aren't exactly using the genetic terms for most of these descriptions, and for the most part seem to be describing the coats in terms that the cats in the setting would understand. "Mottled" by that definition could mean a tight weave of classic tabby, then, couldn't it? Or even a ticked tabby? Or whatever's causing this: media.mnn.com/assets/images/20… ?
Basically- not the "mottling" gene doesn't really exist in cats, but there are genes that can present in a way that would make someone uninformed on cat genetics as the Erens clearly are, call it "mottled".

That picture there looks like a freak pattern where the red fur in a tortie is white instead, I think it's a mutation. It's nicknamed "brindled bicolor"

Hmm, so apparently that cat has a skin condition called vitiligo, which means the skin loses its pigment and so the previously black fur turns white. I suppose you could use that as an excuse for one 'mottled' description, but as it seems to be fairly rare, it wouldn't be realistic for every 'mottled' cat to have it, because there are loads of those... xD

That's also why I suggested tickled and classic tabby. Vitiligo is rare, but ticked tabby also creates something closer to what "mottled" is usually used to describe. Or classic tabby, there's a particular classic tabby pattern that could be described as "mottled" if you broaden the description a little: inspirationseek.com/wp-content…

The old fishies!
I think Echomist wins the prize for being the gorgeous elder out of this bunch. I was a bit puzzled by her being black instead of gray, but now I know why. But I agree with what you said...as Clan leader’s wife, you would think she would be in a position to take Crookedstar in and tell Rainflower to ~ off (because Hailstar could kick Rainflower out of the Clan).
Could Echo and Lake possibly be sisters? Seeing them together, I think there could be some relation. Or her and Shimmerpelt (which means that she would be related to Blackclaw...interesting).

Oh yiss, she's gorgeous I think too. xD And right, I sorta think so too?? I don't get how everyone could pretend Rainflower wasn't doing all that shit without ANYONE raising a fuss... sigh.
Well, Echo will certainly be related to one of them, but ahem I must admit right now I don't remember which lol.
