I decided to shift it to just two litters. Ivypaw and Silverpaw are born before the OS (thus both should be listed as apprentices in the alleginces of Fire and Ice), then Dawnpaw is part of the second litter that is mentioned by Leopardfur. I decided that maybe she was older than Stormpaw and Featherpaw, maybe a moon or two older given they become apprentices in the following book.

It's kind of rare for single-kit litters, right? Whitestorm was one of the single litter kittens, I think Gorsekit had more siblings but given the circumstances they died, Pinenose probably had more kits besides the one that died, or maybe she adopted it which can explain how she became a queen so young.

I've no idea how often there's just one kitten (I know my grandparents had a pair of cats before my time who were mates, and they only ever had one tomkitten, no more)
Well Gorse probably lost siblings when they had to escape, or during the exile when food was scarce and they were so exposed to car fuel.
Hmm, but has any queen died then, or was the kitten found outside the clans, maybe dumped by a rogue?

Gorsekit was born after they were driven off, Eaglekit probably had siblings, though Ashfoot did say "watch my son" it wasn't my kits.
I don't think any ShadowClan queen died...

Well then his siblings could've been stillborn, or died in the environments.
I've no idea really.
No, neither do I...

Too many what-ifs and no clear answers...a shame it had to happen. But Gorsekit was so cute.
Be ready for a great heap of sadness. I had to look in my books for a perfect scene of a queen being sick.
The herbs don't make sense though. Isn't Coltsfoot good for coughs and more safer to give than tansy? Catmint can work but yet it should obviously be saved for greencough cases. I decided to use Chickweed.

We barely had ten known Windclan cats to work with at the very start.
Oh dear, sick queens are never any fun...
Hmm, no idea really, but I'd say save the catmint, it's so little of that herb going around on a regular basis.

Especially when it depends on the situation at the time. The flood probably destroyed many of the herb areas which means that RiverClan would have to look for herbs elsewhere. I bet Brambleberry struggled to rebuild her stores following the flood where Crookedstar and Oakheart were born.
Indeed, especially when it's a she-cat who has problems staying warm during the cold times and being pregnant...really not the best combo.
I love learning about herbs, though being a medicine cat sounds boring most of the time. It's cool to learn the different herbs and what their uses can be.

Most likely - well, the water-based herbs should be easier to reaquire, but as for the plants on drier ground, heh... oh dear.
Doesn't sound like it.
Herbs are interesting anyway, the way you can use star leaf (it's the slang name, I can't for the life of myself remember its' real name) on a scrape to lessen the sting, it can be things as easy as this really.

I think we may had did Runningwind a grand honor. Just think the Erins made him be Mousefur's brother but seemed only to have him be killed by Tigerclaw, no mate, no kits, not even an apprentice.
But we did it, we turned a minor cat into a tom who had a forbidden mate and kits that expanded down the line to the Omen of the Stars Arc.
Besides...Runninggreen has a nice ring to it...
What about Curlrose?

I think we did. He was always such a great character, yet he was given so little screentime other than the odd comment and friendly teasing. And then they killed him off without as much as an ounce to his legacy.
So yes, I think we fixed that, the same way we managed to make something more out of Greenflower. Minor characters always have a certain charm to them, so to see them unfinished makes me disappointed.
RunningxGreen, yep.
Adorable, fricking adorable.

Just like Gorsepaw who they had senselessly slaughter...and these were cats who did nothing wrong. Runningwind was a good warrior, like Mousefur but just not overly put which can make cats boring. He was simple, but good.
Indeed, but it's kind of cruel of the Erins to do this to her. We know Greenflower is a queen at the time Silverstream is expecting kits and she sounds like a good friend, asking if she's already and just being good. But then later the Erins have that her kits die much too early and she's supposed to foster Stormkit and Featherkit, but instead Mosspelt does that? That is just plain cruel.

Aye... Gorsepaw makes me tear up to this very day. Slaughtered by Tigerstar just in order to make a point. At least it showcased just how far in his madness Tiger had gone, and gave the plot a very cruel driving point. Firestar almost seemed obligated to avenge him, with how saddened it made him.
He was extremely good. In opposition, Willowpelt was kinda boring.
Yes, killing off her offspring, and yet she isn't even handed the kittens she was meant to foster? What in heaven's name was then the point of killing them off, Riverclan who has the best survival rate of the clans as of this day. No wonder they are so proud of themselves.
And when we're on that subject, what the heck happened to the rest of Mosspelt's kittens? Willowshine is obviously from a later litter, so I'm stumped... the Erins just wiped them out too for the sake of simplicity I guess.

I think Willowpelt was okay, though I don't get why she wasn't so motherly to Graystripe...it's odd.
It's downright cruel unless the kitting ended up proving fatal. At this time RiverClan did have queen fatalities and they were low on kits. Brightsky lost her kits (and her life), Softwing....apparently lost hers...though Mallowtail and Dawnbright lived, but Graypool lost her kits as well and I guess Sunfish lost her kits too (the ones raised with Silverstream). But think about it...
Brightsky died of sickness after kitting, Willowbreeze died of sickness after kitting (though Mapleshade may had been behind it), Silverstream bled out during her kitting...maybe...maybe Greenflower didn't survive when the kits were brought back? I bet that would crush Runningwind to learn via Gathering that his beloved she-cat died but Ivykit lived on.

KittyStorage In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2014-05-31 20:59:27 +0000 UTC]
Maybe she could never learn to like Graystripe enough? Could happen, maternal feelings can be fleeting in rare instances... although why she couldn't dislike her firstborn son even more would be beyond me.
Nah, her lack of mummy-ness probably comes from the fact that she was neither's mother in the first series, since nothing was developed before BP. Then again, I kinda liked that better than f.ex. the mother-daughter scene with Whitewing and Dovewing. It was refreshing, not too see them so hung-up around their parents all the time.
Jesus, this sounds like one long sap-fest right here. And while stray cats suffer a larger fatality rate and a less number of kittens growing up, this is overmuch. No matter what, this many doesn't die unless there's a severe lack of food, and what cat in his right mind stays in a territory in which their children all die? Man, this made me annoyed all over again. And I refuse to believe both Sunfish's children die, I just can't. Beetlenose's line can't die off, dammit.
I believe in MistystarxBlackclaw though. Perfection in my ears.
But there we go, Runningwind's brokenhearted. Darn... But you're right, Greenflower faded out after that, so she might as well have died for some reason. And it kinda coincides with the fact that Runningwind kicked the bucket too not very long after, so maybe he was too distracted by her death to be on the alert?

Goldenflower was not a clingy mother, but she was there for him to give him advice and calm him if he needed it.
Maybe it was just because they live in water? But during the winter it sounds like they can be hit very hard or after floods like at the beginning of CP where the clan is looking for any kind of fresh-kill. Hey...me wonder...
If Grasskit is a tom...he can be Mistyfoot's mate and father of Reedwhisker (black coat like Beetlenose), Primrosepaw, Pikepaw, and Perchkit
Would you ever ship Blackstar x Nightcloud? I came across that pairing once.
Yeah, he could had left the camp to mourn in peace where the clan would not prob or know of his forbidden love and Tigerclaw would had got him, if a cat is deep in grief then they usually are not aware of their surroundings...and why would Tigerstar kill a Clanborn ThunderClan cat...unless he did something that Tigerclaw hated...
The next book with the Half-Clans...Tigerclaw may not had know Ivykit was Runningwind since he probably didn't know which she-cat Runningwind was mourning...but...his Clanmate he known for a long time and supposed to be loyal having a RiverClan mate...that could had pushed him.

Exactly. Those are the types of mothers you'd imagine live in such hierarchial clans - not the doting, "poor you, nuthing's gonna hurt you"-type of mum who doesn't prepare them for the future possibilities. And Goldenflower is boss in this cathegory.
Sounds like masochism to my ears really. xD But the flood danger is certainly there, are they always are around any bodies of water. Give the new territories a really wet summer, and they'll be fleeing to the hills due to the lake rising, hehe.
Hmm, maybe. Too bad I'm such an ingrained Blackclaw supporter, but otherwise Grasskit is a possibility. They're both black anyway...
With Nightcloud? Nah, I don't think so. Or, to put it in other words, I don't wish something so bad on them. They've got the type of personalities that would create a dysfunctional relationship to rival even CrowxNight, which says a lot. Could be sadistically amusing though...
Hmm, he could have been deep in mourning, maybe muttering a little too loudly to himself about Greenflower, say her name, and Tigerclaw overheard him. And then he could have pinned Runningwind (their sizes should indicate Tigerclaw won't have too much of a problem here...) and madness got to him, and he just murdered the guy. But he was on patrol when Tigerclaw attacked, so maybe he hung a bit behind the rest and was therefore overheard? It's the same ending anyway, sniffle.

They did once, actually it was their own act. The twolegs were coming close and RiverClan were blocking the stream or river and moved the main camp onto the island where Hollyleaf had joined them.
I don't know, Blackclaw seemed to disagree a lot with Mistyfoot, a different kind of mates who can't get along as well but...you know it would work actually. Mates don't have to always be on agreeing terms or lovey gushy, sometimes they can get intense but usually in the end it works out. And...Blackclaw was there when Firestar and Graystripe rescued the kits. Maybe he's just big on the daddy but he cares.
Or maybe Tigerclaw heard mentionings of a RiverClan she-cat, if he went into the RiverClan camp with that knowledge he could ask Leopardstar about Greenflower and Ivypaw would had been in danger but maybe RiverClan could had kept silent about Ivypaw's half-clan heritage.

Ah, I must have forgotten. But it was an interesting take on the lake's more important aspects. But I remember thinking that Hollyleaf was acting so out of line right then...
True, there have been a few couples who show otherwise little in common other than their fondness of each other, or couples we really don't know enough about to pull a decision on them. Cloudtail and Brightheart differed for example on the idea of religion (which I to this day love him for), and it's kind of interesting.
But you're right, Blackclaw really was there, and perhaps he's one of those guys who look gruff but is caring? He wouldn't be the first, Stormtail was even more awkward.
Yes, they'd have to do so, or else Ivypaw and company would have been in the same situation as Graystripe's children happened in later. Afterall, Riverclan hadn't yet come into knowledge about Tigerclaw's treachery and madness, so if he came with the right "worried" approach there's nothing which says Leopardstar wouldn't tell him. And then he rushed out to dig Runningwind's early grave...

Shellheart and Rainflower is another one, divided just because Crookedkit got hurt. They broke up, but yet Shellheart still loved her, though the foxheart didn't deserve his love.
What if Thrushwing mothered Owlwhisker? He was a kit in the New Prophecy and Morningflower was still listed as a queen for a short time, so she could had been in the nursery when her daughter kitted.
I don't know...Runningwind isn't really a big cat, not like Bluestar and her kits. Tigerclaw would had killed Runningwind just because, but if he heard the word of a RiverClan she-cat he probably would been interested, or didn't care because Runningwind wasn't really a big cat to his plans, just an extra...like poor Brindleface.
What do you think of the pairing Tiger x Leopard (kind of weird if his mate had the same beginning as his mother)

KittyStorage In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2014-06-01 22:00:49 +0000 UTC]
She didn't deserve an ounce of the feelings he held for her - for that matter, Rainflower doesn't deserve much on the overall scale, the cruel b***h. So I don't believe for a second that she should be forgiven in the afterlife; it was too late for her to apologize by then, after putting her son through years of anguish.
She could have, and Owlwhisker too is completely available, so let's just pull a decision here and think that perhaps Thrushwing had a difficult pregnancy, and Morningflower wanted to stay in the nursery to assist her. It's sweet, and just a tad bit of paranoia on Morningflower's part perhaps? And Owlwhisker is adorable~
Yeah, Runningwind was kind of treated like a prop, to be used in order to make a statement to others (in this case Firestar and company.) Just about as cruel as the slaughter of Brindleface, which I really think shook the fans of the series at the time.
You know, I kind of missed this type of cruelty in the later books, where cunning and pride was the main factors; in the later series it was all reduced to the manipulations of dead stalker cats, which was kind of a let-down (and the occasional Sol madness of course.)
Hmm, I like the twisted part of this relationship, the way Leopardstar kind of followed him like a love-sick puppy, blind to his faults, and her own pride. Must have been such a big blow to her mental state later to realize that she was probably only a pawn in his game, poor lady.

She was a bitch, a cruel cat. I sometimes wondered what would had happened if Oakheart got injured, would she disown him as well as he will no longer be her 'handsome little warrior," she deserved no kits.
Maybe Thrushing is the mother of Weaselpaw and Thistlepaw (NP), maybe Owlkit was delayed being an apprentice or something, maybe he was born later (rare, but can happen). Especially because...Weaselfur is ginger like Gorsepaw was. You know I been thinking that Rabbitkit is Morningflower's mom which makes her Onestar's cousin, she would be Tallstar's niece, but that's nothing in warrior terms (Dust x Fern).
Well there wasn't really a big bad kitty who was alive to cause trouble, Sol doesn't count as he didn't do anything like kill a cat...it's just a shame really.
You know, I been wondering...why can't SkyClan live by the lake? ThunderClan is bordered by unclaimed forest and that could be SkyClan's territory since they like the undergrowth like trees. It would be interesting to see how the Clans react to the return of the lost Clan, but I bet that would cause a lot of tough choices for the SkyClanners.
Do you think Leopardstar had kits? Volepaw, Stonepaw, and Splashpaw seem likely being apprentices in the NP. Stonepaw could had been named by Leopardstar in honor of Stonefur. She could had given them to Mosspelt or Dawnflower to raise.
I never answered your one question. I think Willowshine was a single litter kit, like Whitestorm since no other kits were ever mentioned. Maybe...do you think Hawkfrost fathered Dawnflower's kits? Namely Minnowtail, Tumblekit, and Pebblekit? Just wondered, but I wonder...I wonder if Mosspelt was mated to Loudbelly

KittyStorage In reply to KalahariMeerkatfan [2014-06-03 10:24:48 +0000 UTC]
Extremely so. And I guess, had Oakheart injured himself in later life, she would have been getting some serious issues with loving him too, because Rainflower seemed very obsessed with 'perfection'. Maybe if someone ripped his ears to pieces, she'd have screamed, hehe.
Nah, uncle x niece relationships have never meant much in warrior terms, and even less so for cousins (BramblexSquirrel f.ex.) so there's nobody who would have reacted to Morningflower and Tallstar that way. (I can't help but think Willowpelt is the only cat who raised 'those' kinds of eyebrows with wha she did xD.)
And Weaselfur sounds like a nice addition to the line, heck it's not the first time a siblings is delayed. Perhaps Owlkit wasn't born the same, like you said, or maybe he had a Sorreltail incident, or he was delayed apprenticeship like Brightheart and Thornclaw, due to his siblings being more ready.
No, they were all just dead, and that's so darnfully boring... Sol was more of an amusement in my opinion, than an antagonist. Such a misfit.
Hmm, there's a possibility for an alternative plotline lying right there yes. And it's not like there ain't enough room for them. My only wonder would be whether Skyclan of today would really survive the clan rivalry - they had so much trouble with housecats alone, it could prove too difficult for the current generation.
She wouldn't be the first to hand her kittens over to someone else, nope. And the Stonepaw reference is so bitter it makes me want to think so. But would Tigerstar be the father of these too, or would she mate someone else after his death in a moment of mental distress, and fool herself into thinking they could be his?
Hmm, Hawkfrost could surely have fathered someone, since if he was half the cat his father was, then he'd be of the idea that "these can be of use to me." And Dawnflower is without a mate, and her kittens' colours fits them both. I find this plenty possible.
As for Loudbelly, I NEED someone to bear his legacy on. He was such a cool character in my opinion, his line can't die.

I wished somebody could had scratched her eyes, blinding her. She doesn't know what true beauty is and thus she should not be allowed to see anything more.
It's possible and Thistlekit could had died sometime before earning his/her warrior name, so only Owlwhisker and Weaselfur got to be warriors. I think Runningbrook is Gorsetail's mother beings both are light gray and it makes sense. I kind of wonder if Tawnyfur may had kits too.
Well SkyClan is still trying to get themselves together, they don't grasp the idea that the warriors do because they had to be started from scratch. They probably would be looked down upon by ShadowClan but moving would decide who is loyal and who is not...It isn't farfetched either, there's plenty of land for them and no Twolegs. Maybe there can be mix-clan breedings to help fresh the bloodline).
True, but it's rare for a Clan leader to have kits, but being fathered by a traitor...I don't think Leopardstar would risk her reputation in that way. She's a proud cat, arrogant as well. Her first choices clearly had her in the firing line, add having Tigerstar's kits...I wouldn't blame her for wanting to do anything to protect what little honor she has left. I kind of doubt another tom, it's rare for female leaders to have kits while being leaders and Leopardstar never seem to be big on kits.
Loudbelly was an interesting cat, though of little we knew about him I think...it would been nice if he was able to have some kits to pass on his line.

Darn good metaphor, and precisely the type of punishment she could have been given.
WindClan has to be the second-most clan where we are given as little info as possible. Half the time I don't know who's related to whom...
But that Thistlekit died, is probably correct. Runningbrook's a good idea here, as for Tawnyfur - haven't a clue.
Oooh, Shadowclan wouldn't have needed to spite any of the other clans anymore if Skyclan came along to be their perfect toy to play with. But yes, their new blood would add a fresh deal to the interclan-mixing that is so popular.
I for one don't even think Leopardstar cared that she was female; she was certainly the most masculine-behaved of them all. It was fresh in its own way, that's for sure, and she made a great imprint with it too. So kittens were most likely the furthest from her mind, especially so I guess after she became deputy.
He was very interesting, for as little as we saw of him, so I decided to give him a position of honour in my story by making him Frostfur's Riverclan bff. It would make the way both of them stayed behind with Shadepelt and Speckletail a little more bittersweet too, clan rivals turned friends taking care of each other till the end. (I was heart-broken when I read about the four of them dying from hunger...)
