Magentaposia 'Milly' Mosswood giggled as she arrived back at her cottage after a quick jaunt into town, feeling slightly conspirital as she entered her abode.  She had been slight worried, knowing what today was, and Milly had feared she would not discover the perfect purchase for such a special day.  And that would have caused the normally jovial witch to pout quite a lot.

Slender and very pretty, Milly wore her wavy golden blonde hair tied back, with a pair of bangs dangling down in front of her ears.  She was dressed in a simple but well-fitted green dress and matching tunic, and a leather satchel was slung over her shoulder.  And in that satchel she carried the perfect gift for her good friend and sort of mentor Elenora Featherbark, whose birthday it was.

Giggling to herself, Milly took out the gift from her satchel, its form wrapped carefully in fine linen and tied shut with a red ribbon.  Milly had purchased it from a travelling gambler she had met in town by the name of Cal Rissian, who seem very charming in a roguish sort of way.  Cal had explained how he had obtained it from an archaeologist friend, after said friend had apparently stolen Cal's pet bird.  It was all very convoluted, and Milly wasn't sure if Mister Rissian was being entirely truthful, but she had to admit the gift had caught her eye immediately.  Cal had been very pleased to sell it to Milly for a fair price, and had rode out of town quite quickly after the sale was finalized.

Releasing the ribbon, Milly carefully unwrapped the gift to ensure it had survived her journey home in perfect condition; to be honest, this was not in question, Milly just really wanted to have another look at it before she properly gift-wrapped it for Elenora.

Roughly the size of a large apple, the translucent crystal skull sparkled in the dim light of the cottage, its ruby eyes glistening with a magical light.  Milly found those ruby eyes captivating … hypnotic … mesmerizing.  So she looked deeply into the skull's eyes, and in turn those ruby eyes looked back.  And, somewhere in the back of Milly's mind, an evil laugh cackled.

* * *

Elenora Featherbark was in a foul mood as she arrived at the cottage of Magentaposia Mosswood.  The reason for this was twofold; first, it was her birthday and she hated birthdays, for reasons.  And second, she was sure that Milly had invited her over with the intention of celebrating said birthday, which she also hated.  For reasons.

“Alright, Magentaposia, I am here,” Elenora said as she opened the front door to Milly's cottage and stepped inside.  Stern in disposition and serious in attitude, Elenora was not one for frivolity, so mentioning that she was a handsome woman was quite the no-no.  Her long dark brown hair flowed freely from her head, and she dressed in black dress and matching woolen cloak.  “This better not be a surprise birthday party!”

“Its not,” replied Milly, who was currently slaving over a small potion cauldron, mixing in herbs and spices before stirring.  “I've been working on a new potion, and I really need your feed back on it.  Have a taste, let me know what you think!”

Before Elenora could protest or object, Milly thrust a ladle to her friend's lips.  Elenora sipped the warm liquid carefully, smacking her lips as she tried to place the taste.  “Interesting, I think I recognize some of those ingredients.  What type of potion is it?”

“A knock out potion,” Milly replied with a manic grin.

“Knock … out,” Elenora managed, already feeling drowsy.  “Why … what...?”

With that, Elenora's eyes rolled back into her skull and she collapsed backwards onto the floor.  And standing over her unconscious form,  Magentaposia Mosswood cackled.

* * *

Elenora groaned as she slowly rejoined the waking world, her skull feeling like a dwarven marching band had been practicing within it.  It took her a moment to remember what had happened, then another to overcome the incredulity of Milly drugging her, then another to realize that she was in a bit of bind. Literally.

While Elenora had been in her drugged stupor, Milly had taken the time to sit her in a sturdy wooden chair, and then had tied her to it.  Elenora's hands were lashed behind her back, her ankles to the chair legs, and her torse was a web of crisscrossing ropes that secured her to the chair back.  But that was not all; a large balled up rag filled Elenora's mouth, secured in place with a wide leather strap, securely gagging the dark haired witch.  This particularly annoyed Elenora, as her situation had left her with many a question.

“Ah, the birthday girl is awake!” cooed a voice that was familiar, but somehow … off.   Magentaposia skipped into sight before Elenora, having shed her normal green dress for one that was a deep red in colour, and she also now wore a wide brimmed hat and a makeshift eyepatch.  She wore a maniacal grin on her face, and in her right hand she carried an ornately crafted, and no doubt cursed, crystal skull.

“Mmph,” said Elenora through her gag.

“Don't be such a grump,” pouted the possessed Milly.  “ Magentaposia wanted to give you a nice surprise, and so she has.  After all, its not every birthday that someone is given the gift of Lady Distracto, mistress of mischief and mayhem!”

“Mmph,” said Elenora.

“I knew you had heard of me!” Milly/Distracto giggled.  “So I had a little accident and my spirit got trapped in this lovely little bauble.  And despite changing hands several times, no suitable host was found for me to transfer into, until the delightful Magentaposia decided to stare lovingly into my eye gems.  And to thank her for giving me the gift of her body, I have decided to fulfill her wish to give you a very happy birthday!”

“Mmph,” said Elenora.

“Now, let's get you in the mood,” Milly/Distracto said, reaching into Milly's satchel and pulling out a pink party hat, which then placed on Elenora's head.  Red ribbon came next, which Milly/Distracto used to complement Elenora's bondage by wrapping it abound her body before tying the ends into a big bow.  The possessed witch then stood back, studying the bound and gagged Elenora, whose face was turning red with rage.  Raising her finger, Milly/Distracto finally figured what was missing, and then reached into her satchel and took out a handful of confietti, tossing it into the air so it snowed down on the birthday girl.

“Perfect!” Milly/Distracto said

“Mmph,” said Elenora.

“Oh don't be like that,” Milly/Distacto scolded her prisoner.  “You are remaining here until you learn to have fun, missy!  You know, you should feel privileged.  Most people find my gags to be absolutely hilarious.”

“Mmph,” said Elenora through her gag, which she did not find hilarious. Just for the record.

“Okay, okay,” Milly/Distracto said, pacing back and forth.  “I can see you are going to be a tough cookie.  I am going to work double time on this.  I have never met someone so fun averse as you! But, but, but! I think I know just the potion needed to give you a sense of humour.  Stay put, I'll whip this up real quick!”

“Mmph,” said Elenora.

Ignoring her bound and gagged captive, Milly/Distracto raided the apothecary and fired up the cauldron.  One by one, using arcane knowledge that only she had ever mastered, Milly/Distracto began adding a bevy of herbs and spices to the pot, stirring it thoroughly as it was brought to boil.  Taking a ladle, Milly/Distracto took a sip of the concoction, and found that it did not taste as hilarious as she had hoped for.  It was missing something, that elusive tang of humour, and she could not put her finger on what it was.

“What is it?” she mused thoughtfully, pondering where she had gone wrong.  “I am sure this was recipe.  I used all the right ingredients.  Why doesn't this evoke the sense of humour I need to make this birthday perfect?”

“Maybe that is because humour is subjective.”

“Perhaps, but I am pretty sure my brand of silliness is universal-”

Milly/Distracto came to a dead stopped, her face turning a ghostly shade of white.  Turning around, she found herself face to face with a thoroughly unbound and ungagged Elenora.  The dark haired witch smirked at her, malice burning in her eyes.

“But … but how did you get out?”

“A lady never reveals her secrets,” Elenora said with a devious grin.  It was then that Milly/Distracto noticed that Elenora was holding in her left hand the cloth that had previously been stuffed in her own mouth.  It was now dripping, having been soaked in a certain knock out potion Milly/Distracto had used earlier.

“Oh bother,” sighed Milly/Distracto, and then found the damp cloth clamped over her nose and mouth.  She inhaled deeply, deciding it was best not to fight it, and soon she drifted off to dreamland.

* * *

Milly groaned as she slowly rejoined the waking world, her skull feeling like a dwarven marching band had been practicing within it.  It took her a moment to remember what had happened, then another to cringe at the mischief she had gotten up to while possessed, and finally another moment to realize she was lying on her sofa, bound hand, food and mouth.  And sitting next her, reading a large spell tome, was Elenora.

“Magentaposia, you are awake,” Elenora said with a smirk.  “Sorry for the restraints, but I need to make sure you are totally free of Lady Distracto's influence.  It took a while for me to figure out how to exorcise her from your body, and trap her again in the lovely cursed crystal skull you bought me.  But because exorcism is such an imprecise art, you'll need to remain bound and gagged until I am totally, one hundred percent certain that you are completely ghost free.  Don't worry, it shouldn't be too long. Just a few more hours at most.”

“Mmph,” said Milly through her gag.

“I knew you would understand,” Elenora said, nodding.  “Anyway, you just lay here and be a good girl while I read.  After all, disturbing my studies could be a sign of possession, which would mean I'd need to leave you gagged and bound even longer.  And we wouldn't want that, would we?”

“Mmph,” said Milly.

Elenora leaned back in her chair and lifted the tome, turning to the next page.  A genuine smile then passed over her face.

“You know what, Magentaposia? All things considered, this has turned out to be a pretty good birthday. So thank you.”

“Mmph,” said Milly.

“Well said,” grinned Elenora.  “Well said indeed.”

She's a witch of few words. Or specific, angry words.

Less words, if she's gagged XD

Oh god, I loved it XD You did all the things, and you did all the things right! It had everything, Lady D, my favourite witches, rumours of archaeologists, Cal Rissians, people getting tied up, Elenora being terrifying, pernicious, deviant, troublemaking authors squirreling out of trouble... XD Thank you!

The audacity though, apologising for being late and then letting me find this afterwards! XD

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.  Unfortunately I am not a wizard, so I had to cover up my misdeeds with a well timed story!

I am glad you enjoyed it, I feel this story has been well overdue considering all that you have helped me with over the years.  Writing Elenora and Milly (when she is not possessed) and Lady D was a lot of fun, thank you for creating such awesome characters
