I started learning CSS with w3scools.com and `NyssaB 's CSS Rundown + Template . Other useful tutorials with updated CSS including gruze is explained in `ginkgografix 's tutorials section that I highly recommend you check out here!

Yes a tutorial was made by `ginkgografix in 2010 and it even got a DD.

Yes, it's easier to install skins to journals now, so no need for the tutorial since it is outdated

That's a fine start to make your own journal skin. Maybe later you can learn Css and html and advance to the next level.
