Religion is a touchy subject for me because usually when I bring up my faith people tend to retreat, but I'll do it this time.
This is all about personal experience, so don't take anything I say the wrong way because I don't know what you believe.
When I was Christian, every time I needed to pray (which wasn't very often - I always feel weird about asking ANYONE for ANYTHING) it seemed my prayers were ignored or the opposite effect of what I asked would happen. Maybe it was my perspective, maybe God had a lot of other prayers to deal with at the time, but I grew more and more impatient.
As I grew into my Wiccan faith and identified my true Goddess, Isis, I began to realize that one single deity simply cannot answer every single prayer. For me, the outcome of my prayers depends on who I prayed to. I'm generally into Egyptian gods and goddesses myself, but anyone can pray to anyone.

Or, if they're strong or selfless enough, no matter who you pray to. I don't usually pray to anyone in particular, I just pray. NO names or God, gods, or goddesses in mind at all ever. And if it's strong enough or meaningful enough, it always turns around. If it's just silly, then usually not. lol Congrats to both of you having prayers answered, though.

That's a good way to pray too. It's like saying, "to whom it concerns", and it goes to whomever can help.
