Yea I don't think I'll ever understand Scully's actions in this episode. It's so unlike her. I'm sure Mulder was happy, it's the most action he'll see from her for the next six years. Any who, next episode is Deep Throat, off to watch it now for inspiration.Related content

I think the critics and viewers needed a little cheesecake in the pilot to sell the show. Carter had a hard time convincing them to let him hire Anderson for Scully...they wanted someone more blonde and busty. Carter was right, though.

This scene always makes me chuckle!
Actually it wasn't in the script originally but FOX made them write a 'nude' scene for Scully so it would be more interesting to watch the show. I don't think the writers actually enjoyed having to include this scene, since it's (as you have all mentioned) not very Scully-like behavior.

Yes, that was out of character for Scully, but it was also the pilot episode so the characters had some developing to do. I don't know though. She is very professional, and I can see her putting modesty aside during what might be a medical emergency. Anyway, I'm sure it put a hitch in Mulder's giddyup.

she was so different in the beginning. after her abduction and when the show began really picking up... Gillian really began portraying this cold intelligence. I love scully, but I wish she smiled more.

Well Scully never did anything like this later on screen. They do start dating in like the sixth or seventh season. (I can't remember which.)

I know! I mean, if this had been later in the series, even nearer the end of the first season, when they're actually, y'know, friends, it would've worked a little better at least. It would make more sense that the first thing she does is go to Mulder when they've been working together for a while. But considering they had just met, AND she's a doctor, and probably had a mirror somewhere in her room that she could have used... I really, really don't understand why she went running to Mulder that way. And was so dramatic about it. What? 
But then, it's the pilot episode. They don't always have the characters nailed down in the pilot.

Yea it's so weird to think that in the original pilot Scully had a boyfriend. Thank goodness they dropped that idea. Especially because Mulder is clearly the winner over the guy they picked. Also she would never be able to see him with all the long nights she's spending with Mulder.
