I'm guessing even the sun's reflection will cause her harm? I don't really see the need for protective goggles otherwise.

I think she only wants to stay on the safe side - and yes, I guess even reflected sun could harm her. Maybe its not lethal, but it could be bad for her eyes.

Well, unless light somehow makes a sound while moving through the air, I'd think some sort of light detector would be a better idea. With a sonar, her eyes (or whatever part of her body) would be friend long before that thing goes off.
