Omg I never thought doing detailed BGs is so easy... >.>
And by the way... 15 min for this background? I spend like 10 hours on a single background, and then it only 'starts' looking good.

kokamo77 In reply to vql [2009-07-27 17:32:42 +0000 UTC]

Well, now that I'm making my pictures larger the backgrounds take more than 15 mins! Now they take like 40 mins!

I'm having trouble with the layers..how many layers do you use? And how do you shade/hightlight the background and put the leaves BEHIND the trees? i''m not a computer nerd, so i don't know these things. thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kokamo77 In reply to Animalluvr47 [2009-07-09 23:28:49 +0000 UTC]

Um, for this I just used one layer! And I rarely use them unless I am drawing all of it on gimp. For this I just drew the background on gimp and pasted Nicole onto it and then added the splash and stuff.

Animalluvr47 In reply to kokamo77 [2009-07-10 00:16:33 +0000 UTC]

but how do you put the leaves behind the trees after you draw them?

Oh, that! I use the fuzzy select tool. I use that for almost everything! You will get addicted too! It's located near the top of the tool options.

Thanks, too! Well, right before my trip to Dewey Beach, DE,I decided to create a character. I started to draw a galloping horse, and as I was, something clicked. I don't know exactly what, but it clicked. And you know what came out of that drawing? A beautiful mare named Dist. I drew another one of her, and it turned out great! So I just evolved another improvement! i'm happy.

0_0 how do you get such good quality pictures with gimp? i can't get art worth a dollar from it, even with a tablet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kokamo77 In reply to jayrunner [2009-07-04 01:33:58 +0000 UTC]

Well, I do the lines on MS paint....but I wouldn't call that good quality either. But, I like GIMP, even though it's sucky compared to photoshop, it's good enough for me. I wish I had a tablet. I also costs to much.

Would you happen to have the Ivy and Galaxy brushes for gimp? I deleted all the random not-so-helpful brush files when I downloaded a ton of others. Turns out they might be-so-helpful ha ha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kokamo77 In reply to BladesEternal [2009-06-03 14:49:40 +0000 UTC]

Just un-install and re-install gimp, and you will get them all back, I think. But then you would probably lose all of your downloads. Hmmmmmmm.....I don't know what to tell you. You, know if you could find some other leaf downloads, they would e better than the vine. That was just the closest thing to leaves that I could find. Hey, how do you get brush downloads? I could really use them! I tired of smudging every blade of grass!

BladesEternal In reply to kokamo77 [2009-06-04 06:19:44 +0000 UTC]

Meh that would work. I actually just recently wiped my hard drive from a bug that got in my lap top and had to re-download gimp. Backed all my files to my desk top so that's how I saved my gimp works. I found some leaf brushes but I honestly think the default ivy brush makes a way better design, (from what I've seen by yours )

Theres lots of sites you can download brushes from, noupe.com, searchlightdigital.com, techzilo.com, blendfu.com, tons of others. blendfu has a HUGE selection, I turn to them for everything.
Downloadable brushes come in a file called a "zip file," you need a specific wizard to open zipped files but most computers have those through default. It's simple to figure out once you click the download or run button or whatever might happen to pop up.

Hmmmm. I'm not too good with computers, (my brother helps me and then I just draw "pretty pictures". That's about all I know how to do!) Sorry if I couldn't help you much, hey, but I think you just helped me! Thanks!

Well I could guide you through the folders to get to the brush files. You could email them to me or somethin-somethin.
