Description
This one is a high resoluted inage of our moon. In the full 21 MP version, details can be seen which are only 400 metres wide. It's my personal best result on the moon.A 20 inch telescope was used in combination with a Canon EOS dSLR. Three images were taken at a focal length of 5000 mm. The images were stitched together to one single image.

It was a 20 inch telescope with a focal length of 5000 mm. But you can capture such details even with a smaller one...

Nice, and stitched seems without errors. When i stitching Moon, lines always remain somehow visible.

Thank you
It is important to use the right settings during the exposure. The main thing is, auto white balance must be switched off.
I stitch such pictures manually, because there were only three images.

danke sehr. aber man kommt leider nur selten an einen solchen schΓ€rfegrad hin, weil bei derartig groΓen brennweiten die luftunruhe meistens sehr viel details kaputt macht...

Pardon my French, but HOLY SHIT!! This photo looks awesome!!!
I just bought a Nikkor 70-300 VR and one idea was also to try to capture the Moon. Of course I could never get as close as your photo here, but still something. Do you have any special tips on (camera settings...) concerning that I'd like to shoot Moon too? I have a D90.
Did you take the photo in some observatory or did you use a regular telescope sold in certain shops?
Anyway AWESOME JOB!! Definitely a
If you get a chance I'd appreciate if you would take a look at my gallery too [link]

300 mm are already OK for capturing the moon, if you take an image crop after exposure. But it would be better, when you take a lens converter (e. g. 2x, so you get 600 mm focal length). The D90 has got live view: use this to find the perfect sharpness. Swith of the VR and use mirror lock up to avoid any vibrations. Use a remote control or the selftimer of your camera. The perfect solution is to control the camera via PC/notebook with live view. Try it!
Try low iso speeds, apertures about f/7.1 and exposure times about 1/100 sec.
My image was made through a big telescope in an observatory. I've got access ti this one with f= 5000 mm and d= 500 mm. it is a mosaic of three single images. It hangs on my wall in 47" x 31"

Thank you for the tips I really appreciate it. This made me check out observatories in my country and now I've taken into schedule to visit one!
