Description
Did you know that when folk decide to get married, they send out 'save the date' cards? I was wrangled by one of my friends to make her save the date cards and lemme tell you, it was a harrowing, amazing, terrible, wonderful and super fun growing experience. The cool thing is that they had In-n-Out cater their wedding which was sock-hop themed, so I got to draw the restaurant in there and truss them up in appropriate garb. What's one of those old-fangled terms they used back in the day. It was swell! The couple was actually the easiest part of this piece. It was the background that killed me. I tried something on a whim with the bushes using a pattern of leaves from a fabric print and manipulated the shape and angle in photoshop which I think, made for an interesting effect. Haha, yes, only with an artist will you hear them say, "really proud of leaves!" I took way too many risks, executed crazy ideas and experimented with this, but I'm just stoked it not only came together, but the recipients loved it.

I like the background here too! I don't know much about photoshop so I'm not sure exactly what you'd have to do to the leaves but I agree they came out nice, all leaf-like and all hehe. What I'm wondering about is how you managed to get such a perfect looking stamp up there in the top right, the literal process of how you wrote the text in the bottom right, and how you drew the tiles on the ground. I thought to myself "How would I illustrate tiles that look that good?" and I couldn't think of anything! Also nice reflection of the sign on the ground c:

Stock photos! Sooo many stock photos, haha! I love collecting different images from various eras and my 'old stamps' collection worked out.
The font for the card was found on www.dafont.com. Great resource for wacky writing! As for the cobblestone, I took a photo of a piece of street near my place and multiplied it over and over, transforming it into various sizes and widths for variety. Like I said- lots of crazy experiments and risks.

Oh is that so! So did you use PS to graft the stock photo stuff (the stamp, ect) right onto the drawing, or did you use the stock drawings and just re draw the (stamps, ect) stuff in there? I thought that's what you meant you did! Either way it looks really great and effective.
And is that how you did the street? Well yeah you're right about risks, good to know it turned out well. I've got no mind for PS so it's astonishing to see you warped a real street into something to be used in a drawing! You fooled me is what I'm saying hehe, thought you drew that in there. Does look nice, and then the light on the street makes it seem even more authentic :3 Now, dare I ask how you managed to do the night sky? :3

Just some passes with a regular photoshop brush and a spalsh of stars. You can find plenty of star brushes here on deviantART. it's where I get all my art goodies

I once was asked for something similar by my best friend for her wedding (even if my work wasn't a drawing as good and complex as yours) and it was a funny and yet frightening experience I never want to repeat again...
This is really amazing! I bet your friends were very much pleased by it: look so much like a 50's poster, funny and cool and and full of nice thouces and colorfull and... OMG I want to go to their wedding party!
And I also want that poodle skirt...
