Description
Submission for the Jabberwocky theme "Fan Fiction"Issac Clarke from EA's game "Dead Space"; a modern space horror game similar to the movie 'Alien'. Really a great game, and not for the faint of heart or those who are against the harming of alien beings
A finished version of this piece: [link]
Inked by hand, colored via Photoshop (first official piece done on photoshop)

Nice! When you compare it from ink from Photoshop, it looks great. I'm diggin' shadows.

Nicely composed. Striking colors, considering your first venture into PS coloring.

Pretty nice! The color job, and the shading looks very good! Shading in particular is very consistent with the light source of blue hot plasma. >:3 Very nicely colored, and does your lineart some damn good justice! 8D
Crit wise, I think the left arm could use a little less light on the top, being away from the light, and not directly facing it, and maybe use some light on the center of his arm.
and a question, how did you shade? did you use gradients or something, or a tablet, mouse?
fav'd

Thank you! and thanks for the critique I will most def keep it in mind for my next project
I shaded using different layers, so first layer was solid color, then I made darker shades of that color on different layers and then last I applied black to everything. The same goes for the highlights, only I applied light shades and white at the very end. And I use just a regular old mouse for that

ah, i see now. This is just my opinion speaking, but I think it would look cool if you added some sort of a little wave around the beams coming from the plasma cutter, give it some feel of energy or something. :3
and dang, I WISH I had that kind of talent with a mouse. D:

Ha ha thank you!
Yeah adding more to the beams would have been way cooler. Hopefullyy I will figure out how to do that at some point. I'm such a photoshop noob

sweet. 8D I'm using Sai right now, and it's pretty good. It's not a full version of Sai, so there's some tools and stuff missing tho. :\

Bummer :/ I have never used that program. Is it pretty easy?

Yeah. The hotkeys take some getting used to, but you can set them to whatever you want, so that's good. I mainly start and finish with it, and the pen tool is nice to sketch, and then ink, and unlike the Corel Paintshop Pro X I had on my other computer, when you select an inked area, the lines don't have to be all rigid and pixelated in order to fill it in properly with color. I used to use such big sizes in order to get a clear and smooth look to my drawings.
In short, Sai is good. :3 Color selection tools aren't quite as cool as the Corel PSPX tho, so that's where PSPX has Sai beat, but that's about it. XD

yeah, it's pretty sweet. I downloaded PORTABLE Sai instead of the full registered version *don't tell noone >_>*, you can check instructions to download it on youtube, and while it's not exactly complete, it works good still. :3
