There was this contest on the Eragon Movie website to win tickets to see the Eragon movie Premiere...I didn't win, but I got in the top 10 and received the video game and a nifty paperweight thingy with Saphira in it. I had Drawn Thorn and Saphira from the books and I sent it in thinking it would be picked out first for how different it looks and it did! When I recieved a call from a girl named Kimberly she congratulated me for getting this far and on my, "Beautiful picture!"Then when I got my prize in the mail today it had my Envelope on it and Christopher Paolini's signature on it!!With a note that said, "Christopher Paolini LOVED your drawing & signed it for you"
My sister and I both screamed 'cause we love his books!!
So I decided to post it on here to show everyone 'cause I'm so proud!*w00t*

I love your drawing, and I read the discussion you had with padda-daah (yes I'm one of those who reads the comments) and I have to say you both had very good points and I agree with both of you (yes, I can do that) I do have one more thing to add: Oromis : Yoda? Eragon promises to return to Elesmera just like Luke promises to return to- wherever yoda lives? Sho yeah, I love the books, agree this world is runnging out of ideas, but fervently hopes for better to come.

but that doesn't help the fact i want to crucify christipher paolini
the likeness between his story and Lord of the Rings AND Star Wars is appaling and it make me wonder why he was even published in the first place!!
never let me near a book signing he gives. i might injure him. i know for the least i'd yell at him for a fair amount of tim ^^

Woah...he was, like, fifteen when he wrote Eragon. Plus, there are plenty of books that resemble others (most dystopian novels, The Hunger Games, and how many times have the Cinderella and Romeo and Juliet things been recycled?); it doesn't take any merit from the work itself. Your opinion is your own, and you're entitled to it, but I believe that your approach is a bit extreme. I find that the Inheritance cycle is a brilliant piece of work, and it doesn't copy Lord of the Rings or Star Wars (recycling and building upon ideas that have been around since before Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, yes, but copying, no). But who knows? Maybe I'm just biased because I happen to like this series.

It's not that similar and the second book is completely different from either of those series...I mean I watch anime and I see similarities to all of them some of them more than others...this world is running out of ideas...

the first one though....and it's cheifly the characters. what paolini should have done was go to live open-mike shows and base characters off real people, not characters already in existence

Well, I thought the characters were original enough. I mean take the witch Angela for instance, she's really cool in attitude and the whole toads are really frogs thing was funny...
And his depiction of dragons is exactly what I think dragons should be like...and where he was going with the story Eragon was a good character personality choice.

but if you look at Tolkein: Aragorn falls in love with an elf names Arwen and in Eragon, he falls in love with an elf named Arya
and the whole thing where Brom, an ex-rider and old man mentors him, just like obi-wan-kanobi in Star Wars does for Luke Skywalker, and then Eragon ends up traevlign with Murtag, who just HAPPENS to be his sibbling, and Eragon is unaware of this fact for some time, just like Luke Skywalker and Princess Leah.....just for starters. ask my friend about it. she knows the similarities better than i do

Well Aragorn is an evil villian so...and I bet paolini didn't mean the names to be so similiar, I do this all the time when making characters I sometimes get names similiar to other stories cause the names click...
And the older more experienced teacher (Brom,obi-wan-kanobi) Is in alot of stories Avatar:TLA (Uncle & Zuko), Dumbledore and Harry Potter, Bleach (Rukia(yes, she's older
And for an enemy to be forboding and a big threat in this situation would be the "Brotherly" relationship so it makes for a good villian and creates conflict for the main character (this situation also appears in One Piece) This is stuff you learn in english class when developing a story...not everything is going to be completely original anymore...
