JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, one of the most bizarre anime/manga ever. It stars as a semi-serious parody of all manga from the 80s and then sort of becomes its own thing.
Every part has a new protagonist who shares the same initials as the original protagonist...
Part 1: Jonathan Joestar
Part 2: Joseph Joestar
Part 3: Kujo Jotaro
Part 4: Josuke (the kanji "suke" can also be read as "Jo") Higashikata

Even when he becomes Galvatron he's generally treated as a brand new character. In JJBA's case, Dio in part 1 is treated as Dio Brando while Dio in part 3 is DIO.
And if you count the speed ball run counterparts there's...three Dio's...good Lord xd

Eh, it's totally getting adapted. Part 1+2 was pretty successful, which led to the creation of Stardust Crusaders. I'm guessing SC is even more successful, considering it was the season that made JJBA popular.
Diamond is Unbreakable is also the creator's favorite part, apparently, so there's that.
