Description
This is my first render using reality 2.2. I used mainly default settings and only 1 point light above the little guys head. It's ok, I like the gloss finish to the table and some of the shadows look good, although some of them on the faces look jagged.Related content

I let it render for about 5 hours, samples were about 1000. But samples per pixel are not a good judge of how well a scene will look, your eye is. The one with Annie dangling a little guy, was a decent render 3 hours before I stopped it. With better lighting I could have rendered that in 2 hours. With less samples.

Yeh I didn't really change it that much from the first render, it as more of a reality test.

Pretty much what everyone else already said. Spec/Ambience/Glossiness usually have to be brought down, sometimes to 0.
And there's these lights called Image Bases Lights which light up the scene without...lighting it up. Used in conjunction with normal lights, they will add some visibility without creating additional shadows. There's some premade IBLs with Reality so those are good to practice with. They're just 2D pictures that have light shown through them, like a stain glass window sort of. You can make your own using Photoshop fairly easily.

Cheers buddy. I only found the pluging folder with all that stuff yesterday. It's funny just as I'm getting pretty good at using lights in studio, I'm back to being a novice again

Exactly! It's like starting from square one again because everything you've learned suddenly doesn't work anymore.

For the first face, try to reduce Spectacular and make bump strenght to 100, works most the time for me. i used glossines 80 and spec 60 for some my renders, the skin is not to glossy, but has still some shine.

Thanks for the advice WhiteB3. Lights work differently than Daz, I have done this pic before in Studio and didn't get that glossiness and from what I have read using the lights in the plugin file of reality give better results when starting off. I did another simpler scene using the softbox light which looks a lot better.
By the way your work is outstandingly good, if I even get half as good as you I'd be extremely happy

Thx, i use softbox and the mesh light. In the light settings of reality i have activated the ibl light.
in luxrender i set the IBL light to 60 and the lights to 1.
I sue the linear tone mapping with
Gamma 1
Film ISO 100
Shutter 1/4
f-stop 5.6

It looks good to me, my only thing is the first face on the left seems to be a bit glossy and reflective. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It just was an observation. But as always, a great piece!
