Description
At long last it is done: the red doily for my desk has been completed!!!! It has been in the works for 6 or 7 months, and though working on it was a joy I'm glad that it is finishedIf you are wondering, the desk is a DIY job, made of an antique tabletop inlaid with leather and the base of an ever older SINGER sewing machine cabinet (I'm a regular lurker at DIY sites !). And I couldn't resist showing off just a few of the things that call this desk home
Doily measures around 3 feet 3 inches long and 22 inches wide. Made of size 10 crochet cotton.
And cat hair was donated by my beloved feline family Seriously, there is no getting it off of crochet once it gets on!

Thank you so much!
My Mom had one sitting in our living room growing up and used it a few times, though it has been in storage now for a few years. She won't part with it, and I wouldn't let her even if she wanted to They are wonderful machines!

Yay!!! Indeed they are. So cool and joyful to read this little story about these machines and your Mom!!! ^^
Hee hee I still can remember those times when my Mom used the Singer machine near one of our main windows of our house. And the sound of the machine while pressing the pedal!!!

Ow! How lovely!!!
It does look fantastic from far and even better from close... well done! Lot of patient and systematic work!!!
Respect my Friend!
But I melted down seeing this sewing mashine bottom...
We had exacly the same mashine home and we were using it!!!
You have no idea what sort of memories that trigers in me... mashine was standing in the room of my great grandmother in our house...she was my nany,so I played often there aaaaalllllllll kinds of fantasies sitting underneath the mashine! I loved the whole mechanisme and they often had to stop me to move the pedal, cause the belt could get broken from doing it too fast,hehe...and the mashine itself is very beautifully decorated...with golden design on black metal... I don't know if You ever seen them...
Thank You for this flash back to my curious childhood!
And for creating such beautiful thing on crochete, -we need to make sure that crochete craft won't be forgotten!
Hugs!!!
Daga.

So glad you like it!
Thank you for the little story! Ah, the things that remind us of our childhood We actually have a working SINGER machine, and it is in excellent condition and has the beautiful gold designs on the shiny black metal just like you say. It hasn't been used in a few years (had to put it in storage, but hope to get it out sometime soon), but I recall doing a project or two on it when I was a child. It was both tricky and fun making the needle go by making the pedal go by pressing it up and down.... the only problem was that the belt would slip off on occasion and all sewing had to stop for a few minutes until it was put back in place
The base for my desk was given to us by a neighbor a few years ago. It had the wood cabinet on top, but had sat out in the weather for several years and saving it just wasn't possible, so we took it apart and salvaged the metal base. It actually belonged to my mother, but when the tabletop came along and we were thinking about how to make a base she suggested that the SINGER base would be great if I wanted to use it. As you can see I did use it, and I just LOVE the result
And it is so true that the art of crochet shouldn't be forgotten! It saddens me that so few people do it anymore, but prefer to go out and buy some machine made pieces that aren't anywhere near as lovely as a handmade piece. Well, it won't die out in my family, I promise you that! And if ever I marry and have a daughter of my own I'll teach her how to do this just as my mother taught me
Thanks again for the kind comment

Hi Liz!
Thank You for the fav!
If the belf fals off it means is too loose, and tiding it up by cut out adequate lenght and tide it up with one, strong (hand made) stich ...we did that if was no new belt available...
And yeah, the singer machine was for me a car, factory, train, probably even spaceship, hehe but mostly house with all the things being useful for something...hehe...
I am busy with new project on crochet but that will look wilder than expexted,hehe...
But for now is not yet much to see...
Have a great weather and greetings to all!....
Hugs!
