Final project from my Intro to 2D Animation class last semester--yeah, way back in May. Took me that long just to build up the courage/get enough distance from my own embarrassment to put this up here. In a way I'm still kind of proud of it: just seeing what I managed to do in, oh, 6 weeks or so? in a class I "took" just because I wanted to learn animation... but obviously, I bit off way more than I could chew, and realized just how far I still am from becoming anything close to an animator.Please don't critique this for the animation or concept or composition; I know it's poor, rushed, cheesy and disconcerting. Most of it makes me wince. I know I really, really need to practice depth.
But, well... I guess, I just really wanted to show you this roughest version of the animation I WANTED to make. I did this for my final project because this is what I dreamed of every time I listened to this song. This is Ian's song, and Ian's beginning. I'm not even sure if I want to keep this idea--it's cheesy as hell, I know, but for now it's what I'm running with until I can come up with something better. The concept's gonna stay the same either way, because this has always been a story of the fall. For those of you who've been following Angel Dust (bless you guys, seriously), maybe this'll help illuminate something? I hope it adds a little to the story.
The song is "One Day You Will Teach Me To Let Go Of My Fears," by sleepmakeswaves , used with their permission in this animation. You can listen to the unedited version here , and even download it if you like! Thanks again to this band for letting me use their music; it's the whole reason this animation even exists.
For anyone who spotted the cameos, they are: ~shark-bomb 's Tudor, =theblackbutterfly 's Obizuth, and of course a Cris from AD . Lai, this is absolutely GORGEOUS! You shouldn't be embarrassed, you should be damn proud! Hell, I am proud of it and it's not even mine! Yeah, sure it's not ultra-slick Disney animation but it didn't need to be to get the story across. I am assuming this was a solo project and to make a 4 minute long animation of this quality by yourself is AMAZING! Your timing to the music and your overall storytelling are wonderful.

Ahahah yeeeeep, solo project it was... though my professor was the absolute best, staying with me in the studio 'till midnights often to help me figure out how to time the scenes and organize the cuts... @_@;; That, and a lot of camping out at the animation studio during finals week, hahah!
Ahhh, but I do DREAM of someday making this into something like a complete, polished animation... after I get a LOT better at composition and depth... u_u;;

my animation final was a moving storyboard (barely moving at that) about one of my cats ambushing my other cat for a spot on the couch. it's soooo crappy, i am surprised i graduated from the course.

The music choice was great the way you planned it out was marvelous.
But man, if you had colored it and done a lot more with it...it would have been so perfect!
But I can understand with animation its really tough, I'm still struggling with how to use Adobe with using the frames. SO I give you props!

I know what you mean, I'm actually in the same situation as you were now. I have to make a 2D animation for a project but...Adobe is...hard to use. Do you think it would be easier if I used that animation program you are?

Ahhhhhh, by Adobe, do you mean Adobe Photoshop, Flash, or something else?? I used Adobe Photoshop to draw all the frames, and actually to check my animation! I just exported the final animated "scene" as a series of Jpegs to put them into Toon Boom for the final cut with everything together.
Adobe Photoshop actually has a surprisingly simple animation window, you just set new frames and set how long you want it to hold them (it goes by fractions of a second though, and not frames per second (fps)), but it's what I use to create all my animations, actually!

Well, feel free to give it a try! To be honest I never could quite figure out Flash either, hahahah! Adobe's user interface in general is often really difficult to navigate, but the animation window in Photoshop is surprisingly easy, so do give it a try!
