what i did was set the exposure and point at sky. we were shooting fire works in front of my house on the street on new years eve. this one blew up lower in the sky just above the tree line.
How awesome is it that I only took three shots that whole night.

30s @f8 + point at sky.

this one was mostly luck. I did know what to set the exposure to, and that I needed to point my camera at the sky. everything else I left to chance. I set f9 and a long exposure. pointed it at said explosion and when it was over I put my hand over the lens to "stop" the exposure. framing it was lucky. f'in sweet luck!!!

yeah i know to se long exposre for fireworks, it's just keeping the camera still long enough that's the trick. XD

about holding it still... it doesn't really matter, the light streaks add to the fun and make it look more interesting/exciting.
about my shot,
I didn't use the viewfinder, I just pointed the camera at the sky, I didn't even know if I was pointing in the right spot.

i was merely the person holding the camera. i was astonished when i looked at the LCD. i really don't know how that happened, before i looked at it, i thought i had another crappy picture. the few previous shots don't look like this. one of my favorite shots!

i took a digital photography class once and my teacher told us we should always take as many pictures as possible of any subject because out of 200 shots you may only get 1 truly awesome picture. it just seems to work out that way sometimes - the best photos aren't a result of skill but luck

i'm not a shooty shoot, i usually only shoot two to three frames, maybe more if worth. if i don't get the shot exactly like i want it, and have near it, then i leave it alone.

this night i only shot once per firework. a total of 5-6 shots only a few fireworks were shot that night.:{[~?:'`;,.
