Description
Somewhere in the mountains....*cough* This is a piece I initially intended for a contest, and so I started and did the first half of the work in quite of a hurry, which is totally untypical for me. Anyway, I still missed the deadline, so I didn't have to push it anymore, I had all the time I wanted and I even added a few details and elements that I didn't originally intend to do.
Now a little for the image itself. It has no story, although the presence of a dragon might suggest it. But, well, no. So it's quite just a scenery, an experimental piece of work, a great opportunity to try out a few things regarding painting of very different objects. I should say I learned a lot while doing it. Here some strange weather effects, I admit. The foreground pine trees are currently in the shadow of a cloud mainly for contrast reasons. In case you wonder.
Done in Ps CS4, original size: 1600x600.
I used some of my own photos as partial reference for the mountainside view. Only partial though. The rest is fantasy.
Tree bark texture from CG Textures.
Sky and clouds from a couple of my own photos.
Yeah. I'm lazy.
Oh, and, yeah.... any opinions will be most welcome since I'm not quite sure what to think myself. I guess I did expect more out of this in the end of the day....

The dragon looks like it's going to eat the bird. =O FLY AWAY LITTLE BIRDY!!

Anyway, the mountain I think is rather realistic in terms of concept; while on a rather boring cruise to sothern Alaska (boring because I was born and grew up there, so nothing was all that new to me), we winded through mountians just like thisΒ - perhaps a little less greeneryΒ -Β to get to a glacier.

I love it.

Hahah, I was actually thinking they're friends while drawing
Nature is the best teacher when it comes to art and I dare to say we have exceptionally beautiful mountains here in Bulgaria. I've learnt a lot from them Yet, I dream of seeing Alaska one day too! You can never see too many beautiful places on Earth.
Thank you!
