I asked my Kenyan friend Patrick if giraffes ever get eaten. And he told me that they do. He told me that lions will jump on their flanks and eventually go up and break their necks. I didn't quite understand everything he said, but despite his confident reply, I still can't fathom it happening. I'll have to see it to believe it.---------

A giraffe is terribly vulnerable when it's head is lowered; they have to spread their forelegs a fair bit to drink. So having a lion latch onto the throat when the head is lowered isn't an unreasonable way to take one down, if she weighs enough to keep it from getting its legs back together to kick her to death. (smiles wryly) Of course lions hunt in packs, rather than alone, which others have already mentioned.

But yes, i've seen it on a documentary. Usually requires more than ONE lioness, ya. xDDD
I think they bite their legs and flanks until the giraffe is crippled and can't run, and then do the customary suffocation method. I'll have to see it again to be sure, but I think that's how they did it.
