pen + colored pencils at school during my free time.i have slightly edited it, i only moved some characters around because i wanted this to look somewhat nice and not have scribbles everywhere, so excuse some of my obvious editing.
i gave bowser the wrong star rod on purpose...hehe
also, i somehow forgot to color the milde's shoes... just.. pretend they're purple

cross-hatching has become really easy and fun for me, but a long time ago i used to have a really hard time with it. if you practice like i did, it'll become a lot more fun to do ;D
heres a tip: draw in one direction of lines completely before going the opposite direction.

That green yoshi in the corner looks funny. Maybe you're just not used to drawing them in that stance. (it almost looks like it's pregnant, or something)

Pen is fun, despite being a challenge. If you have the right kind. I like the ones that make a scratchy feel. (what was that one I have? whueva) They feel more... comfortable, than regular ball point.

i really only like to use the common ballpoint pens, you can make light marks for guidelines and sketches before you do the main outlining. i cant stand to use the thicker darker liquidy ink kind. DD:

I only every use the pen if I'm inking something, or if my art teacher says so. I just like the feel of the darker ones. it's more.. pencil like.

i like to use the common pens because you can make the lines light or dark if you want. that's more pencil-like, to me...

the quality of the medium is more pencil like, in the case of regular ball points. But I like that scratchy feel of the sharper tipped ball points.

You know how much I dig nicely colored traditional Mario fan art! 
The shading is excellent and cool, also, specially in that Milde, with those pink and blue shades.
Bowser looks rad. And that Star Rod, hmm... I always said that Kirby's Star Rod and the one from Paper Mario is the same: They both reside in a sanctuary surrounded by stars and they make dreams become true. The Mario Universe is connected with a lot of other universes, like the Warp Whistle from Legend of Zelda which also appear in SMB 3, the Mario enemies in Link's Awakening, the Star Rod here, etc.
