Description
Lace the Vampire is ™ and © of faolanshewolfgold, 2011.Okay, I wasn't satisfied with the last pose, so I redrew and rebuilt it. I'm still trying to figure out the hair, and the black ruffles on the dress upper need to be worked on. I got rid of her high heels and had her wearing her 'Hi Hi Doggie' bobbie socks...
She's dancing and showing off the dress to her close friends, I think...
(Update 6/11/11: Refined her all over, added stuffed animals to corner.)
______________
This is what I envision happening...
"Well, how do I look?!"
Lace stepped lightly to the middle of the room in her bobbie socks, deftly stepping over her favorite stuffed bear with supernatural grace. She then spread her arms and happily twirled in place like a ballerina. The black and taffeta pink ruffled dress, along with her flowing pink hair, swirled around her like a graceful, living thing.
"Well?!!" She gushed as she stopped and looked at Seth, and his sister Sarah.
Sarah brushed her chestnut hair from her eyes and gave Lace a thumbs up and a smile.
The moderately built young man with the short, spiky blonde hair and glasses just sat mutely on the couch.
Sarah waved her hand a few times in front of his face. She looked up at Lace with a grin. "Just a hunch, girl, but I think you broke him…"
"Beautiful…!" He whispered, just loud enough for Lace's enhanced hearing to pick up.
"W-What?!" Lace whispered, her pale face glowing red.
Seth got up and walked over to Lace. He reached out and gently enfolded the pink-haired vampire's hands in his.
"Y-You're BEAUTIFUL. Stunning, even!"
"Ladykiller…" Sarah gibed out of the corner of her mouth.
"Shaddup!" He retorted.
He looked back at the delicate vampiress, who was now standing there looking at the floor with her face beet red. Her jaw was working, but no sound emerged.
Good GOD, can she get any cuter?! he thought, as his heart throbbed. He swallowed nervously. He wanted to hug her…badly. But he didn't want to scare Lace. All things considered, with what her sire did to her decades ago, It was a miracle she hadn't sworn off men completely. Seth was actually surprised she let him hold her hands now. A vampire with PTSD was not a person to take chances with…OR to take lightly.
He noticed her hands shaking slightly, but she didn't pull away.
Seth had found out that he apparently looked a great deal like Lace's sire, but with a radically different personality.
That unfortunately, explained her jumpiness around him.
He cleared his throat.
"You...You okay, Lace?!" He whispered quietly.
She took a deep breath, and nodded. "Umm…yeah…T-Thanks, Seth…very much…" She looked up.
He stared into almost glowing pink eyes with tears in the corners. Her pink hair cascaded around her face, a few tendrils falling over her face.
Seth released her right hand, reached up, and gently brushed a few of the errant strands back over Lace's pointed right ear. He saw her flinch slightly but didn't move otherwise. His gut said that she probably felt the same…but… but…
If I scared her, he thought, she could break me in half without even breathing hard. She's such a sweet girl…I just…just WISH I could help her.
Every time he got this close to her, he wanted to kiss her pink little bow lips and hug her tight…
But he could never work up the nerve.
If he were in an anime, he'd be getting a roaring nosebleed…just due to the CUTE factor ALONE.
He was standing there, locked in place and staring into those beautiful eyes, when he was jolted back to reality when he felt a hand on his shoulder, followed by a loud, exasperated sigh.
"Damn it, Seth! Either let her go, or go get a ROOM, already!" Sarah growled.

It's a challenge, but I pushed forward with this one, and got the foreshortening of the arm right...
(And avoided 'twinning' in the pose, so she didn't read as 'posed'.)
All the little improvements we make keep egging us on, to see if we can TOP ourselves next time.

Thanks, Professor.
Well, it's possible she might have another, more savage form with long, sharp claws she can morph into...she IS a vampire, after all.
I figure, given her general personality, she doesn't WANT to use that side of her...for fear of becoming like her sire...but if I were to write a story, I'd expect her sire to threaten Seth's life...and THAT would be the incentive for her to shift her shape and go @pe$#!t on him.
We'd have to ask Faolan on that one, tho.
Would be interesting if her sire 'jams' her in this scarier form, with the intent of driving Seth and Sarah away from Lace...But he's judging everyone through the prism of what HE would do...and Seth is NOT that shallow...

No problem!
Personally, I never liked characters that held back their power. It's like teasing the audience with what awesomeness could happen, but won't. And sometimes it just feels like an informed power, like everyone thinks that they have world-ending power, but the character really doesn't...
But then again I like the bloodthirsty (understatement), sadistic (understatement) and relentless (understatement) character. I like the villains to play the part of the hero, even with their questionable motivations and selfish desires and even more detestable actions. You know, the film noir anti-hero who wouldn't give a rat's ass in torturing someone with a dull switchblade in a dirty alley...for the lulz. In fact, that already happened once in one of my books...The poor bastard got castrated horribly.
For some reason I've always identified more with a monster than a cutesy character.
It always seems that monstrous characters are overdeveloped without any real direction other than to cause the hero trouble, when in real life that's the kind of mind to actually be an antihero. And a monstrous character has something else going for them; honesty. Instead of covering themselves up like insecure students, they just show their true colors in all of their evil-ish awesomeness. And now adding your suggestion of a sort of reverse "Beauty and the Beast" is kind of intriguing.
*Deep breath* and now I'm done.

Personally, I feel that way to some degree with Superman and Batman, but ESPECIALLY Supes...Just to see him COMPLETELY unload at a bad guy WITHOUT worrying about if he killed the villain. THAT would be awesome, but OOC with the current Supes. The Golden-Age Supes would have fewer compunctions about going medieval. They've only had Supes kill 4 characters since 1986 and the reboot...The three Phantom Zone Criminals that wiped out a (Pocket Universe) Earth and Doomsday (Who got better, just like Supes).
What's the point of Supes massive power set if every villain laughs at him?
I would want to find a balance with the monsters, tho. On ONE end, you have Dracula and his Brides, who just walk around being ***holes...And on the other, you got Twilight's disco ball vampires...
I think "Dance In The Vampire Bund" by Nozomu Tamaki finds a reasonably happy, believable medium ground for the vampires...They can be nice...and VERY human-like when they want to be...but Threaten their human friends or Queen...and you see thier VIOLENT side.
I'm trying to piece together my first OC, a 513-year-old Italian Vampiress named Agnella. I was inspired by the 'Bund' Vampires, and made Agnella to fit into that universe initially, so she's artistic and laid back, but is capable of going medieval if the need arose. The more I sketched, though, the more vanilla she appeared. Right now, I'm trying a design variant on the Nosferatu design...minimizing the 'Demonic Anthro Bunny' appearance with the two, center, sharp teeth...Possibly with veins showing through her skin. She wears a mask and covers herself when she tours the plants her workers are in. She's got 2 humans she trusts as of now: A male lead and her mind-shared proxy who runs the day-to-day of the corporation.
She looks freaky and scary, but is a decent person. She's struggling to find a reason to keep living after all these centuries, and is losing at the beginning of the story...
The rest of the story points are up in the air at this point, tho.

I've never liked comic books for that reason. The heroes always get their ass handed to them because they have this phobia of killing people. I mean, if they wanted to be a cop, why didn't they just get the legal educashun and get the friggin badge?! That's what they act like anyways! Cops could use superpowered operatives! Not to mention governments! But noooo, governments in comic books are always either God or corrupt!
If everyone is going to be a vigilante, why not have them act like a real-life vigilante?! Vigilantes in real life are nothing like that! More likely than not, they'll be spree killers! Mentally unstable, tragic, and cannot be reasoned with!
But I have to disagree with you on Dracula. Dracula was a pimp who did everything he could to take over England. But Van Helsing just outsmarted the Count because he's had so much experience in hunting vampires. I loved Dracula. My vampires are primarily a mix of Dracula and monsters like Alma Wade. In my mind, vampires wouldn't necessarily be bad people. Tehy're humans forced to be predators to the extent of having their minds altered against their will. But I think they'd try to fit in. Yet the myths surrounding them would make people paranoid, especially governments and such, who'd possibly view them as little more than animals. So really the villainous vampire would be abused and austricized to the point of being so broken they have no option but to cave in and become as evil as everything that's been done to them.
The main vampire character of mine is actually a 17-year old high school student (who is now 24 in my book) who got turned against her will. An organization got a hold of her and started running brutal tests on her body without properly sedating her, thus tearing her open every day for five years while she was wide awake, and even putting electrical devices on her exposed innards. And there was even worse stuff that happened, but we're not going into that. Basically, she became very angry and bitter. She cares about nothing (or does she?!) and wouldn't have any second thoughts about raking her 3-inch claws through the throat of some random passerby. In fact she'll drink anyone's blood if she gets the chance. And her power is ridiculous. Just walking by will short out any unprotected electrical device and explode light bulbs. And you know what? She uses this incredible power! She's traumatized her tormentors! She punched the guts out of someone (literally...that person is still getting over it) and proceeds to send telepathic taunts to her tormentors, who actually have no choice but to let her out because she's becoming too powerful to contain.
She might be evil, she might be good. But she's bitter and angry through no fault of her own. The world made her a villain, not vampirism.
As for he looks...she takes after Alma Wade in not bothering with clothes. After what was done to her, she doesn't see any need to cover herself. Because she hasn't had any blood in years, her appearance is also a bit gruesome. Her skin is gray and her veins are black. Her eyes glow. She's got fangs an inch long. She's intimidatingly monstrous. She's got nothing left to hide.

Oh...I wanted it to be a manga once. However I hardly have the patience for a four page comic! The series itself is very gorey. I didn't give this character claws and fangs for nothing. She uses them liberally.
That's the reason it's written in book form right now.
On that note, blood is very fun to draw, I found out.

Sounds like it could make a good novel or series of novels.
(I'm a bit of a wuss, so I'm not really into gore...but the horror fans would probably love another good horror series.)
You could probably get some good sales out of it. It sounds like it would take the readers on quite a roller coaster ride, as your girl tries to figure out who she is, and WHY she's still alive...

Internet-Cancer In reply to laughingvulcan [2011-06-10 01:21:02 +0000 UTC]
I try...and yes, it's a series. In fact it has several arcs that take place on different planets.
If you're turned off by gore, you'll not like this series. Seeing as how I am partial to guro, you can see where I get this from. It's sort of a science fantasy/horror/international weapons espionage book...the gore isn't the central aspect, although I'll tell you that when it happens...Samantha's kind of like a human meat grinder.
Actually, she doesn't care why she's still alive or why what happened, happened. She's past the point of demanding answers or wanting to die. In a way she's turned into something other than human. her motivation for doing what she does is actually wondering why someone would be so immature as to destroy the world. She looks at what she's been through and is flustered to think that is reasoning for killing and destroying. In fact it's one of the many things that makes her furious.

That started as a sketch that I scanned in, redid the lines & colors in a vector program (Macromedia FreeHand MX, like Illustrator).
You can get nice, sharp lines and crisp colors in those programs, but it takes an investment in time, though.
I want to get into the habit of pushing myself with each picture...to try something new. I've got a lot that I have to get better at: Anatomy, proportion, posing, hair, fashion (I suck at that in particular.), backgrounds...
I tend to look at my art later and see what went wrong. I'm HAPPY with how she's coming out, but I can't stop tweaking...
Be well, and thanks for the comment!
