Description
The idea for this map has been flitting around the mental recesses of a friend of mine for a very long time and when his wife came to me with the idea to build this map as a Christmas present for him, I couldn't turn it down. It is the culmination of quite a few pencil sketches and scrawled notes that had to be carefully and stealthily taken over the course of a frantic Christmas season. Originally I wanted to make something in the style of Atlas' work (link below) but we finally came to the conclusion that a more fantasy approach was better so I challenged myself to mix the two wildly different concepts and voila, my first map.

I created this in Photoshop CS6 using a combination of techniques from the www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRaxI7… ">Atlas Map Style Tutorial by Kindari and the Fantasy Mapmaking Tutorial by Jessica Khoury , as well as a lot of tweeking by yours truly.

The brush set I used most was the Sketchy Cartography Brushes by StarRaven .

Sea monsters are from the Nautical Brushes2: Sea Monsters by BohemianResources .
