I never got to the "obscene" level, though I did take Diamond with me everywhere for a good while (was a big fan of Red as well...avoided everyone in between, though).
I stopped after it started to feel like I "won", enough. Didn't beat the game. Just got far enough.
...also, I was really sick of some of the new(?) creature types that just felt like they were starting to make shit up so it would seem more "complex" then the old fashioned "earth, fire, flying, water, grass" fair. Wasn't there like a "normal" type now? What the hell is "normal"? And "ground" and "rock" need to be separate? It's the same thing! And why the hell would a GHOST be weak to DARK? Do ghosts in Japan come out during the afternoon or something?
