Something odd I've been thinking about Guatemalan gargoyles and gender identity. The serpentine ones might not even know what gender they are until puberty kicks in. There has been a question as to whether or not male gargoyles have nipples. (They aren't drawn with any in the official artwork but that could be a stylistic choice.) Greg has confirmed that female gargoyles nurse hatchlings, so it's presumed they have nipples. (You didn't think those were just decoration, did you?) Well, among gargoyles, gender doesn't seem to be an issue until it's time to make eggs. It's possible that if it was impossible to know what gender a serpentine gargoyle is, it just wouldn't be a big deal. I think I mentioned one of the Guatemalan gargoyles mentioning a brother of theirs who liked to wear orchids. To each his (or her) own.
