^__^ I plan on doing it for as long as I have ideas. Aaand, since life provides constant inspiration, I'm sure it'll last quite a while. My friend also said he'd like to see these compiled into a book. ^__^
Thanks for the comment and all the +favs!

Isn't it funny how "ethnic" people can relate to the questions asked of us by mainstream people? Being part Indian, I've also been asked if I've eaten dog.

HA! Wow, really?
Yeah, that's what makes it easy to not be too offended. Initial reaction: scoff, be offended, taken aback
Next: this would make a great story and comic
People are always offering themselves up to be material. It's an awesome world to live in in that way. Not just for artists. Comedians, too. We're all just drawing inspiration from life. Haha. I'm so in love with that idea...

Drawing (pun intended) from life experiences is what the best comedians AND artists do well. Especially since ethnic artists or comedians are so often misunderstood that it's almost impossible NOT to find material in the misconceptions of our culture/race.
As I mentioned once before, I've had a great number of Asian friends from different countries and I always get a kick when people (usually White people) make mistakes regarding their nationality or their cuisine. Someone once asked a Chinese friend, "do you like a lot of wasabi on your food," he rolled his eyes and simply said, "wasabi is Japanese," when the person asked (knowing his last name was Chen), "well what are you?" he just walked away. Someone at a martial arts seminar, I attended asked a Filipino friend if he knew how to make Kimchee, to which he said, "yes, I do, but Kimchee is Korean, I'm Filipino. Then they asked, "Well how about sushi, do you make that?" Again, there isn't much he could do (and still be polite) but roll his eyes. He said, "yes, I can make sushi, but that's Japanese," then came the ultimate insult, "Well what do Filipinos make?"
Sometimes people don't know how insulting their ignorance can be.

Hahaha. I love the one where he just walked away. That's so awesome.
Ignorance can be directly insulting when they use language, though. Obviously. One time, I was driving and I had to stop while turning because someone was in front of me and I couldn't help that I was blocking a van from passing me. Then, from the van, I heard, "Chink!" It wasn't even aggressive and I was wondering if he meant it as a joke. (I mean, god, there was nothing I could do about the traffic. Geez.) I got upset, haha -__- Stupid ignorant people...

Yes, the world is too full of stupid and ignorant people (they aren't synonymous) too willing to prove their shortcomings in public. I'm sure you've heard of the stereotype that the Chinese don't know how to drive. You've already (and unfortunately) experienced the ill effects of that stereotype. Of course, another stereotype (although only slightly more positive) is that all Asians are good at math. People never stop to think how these are just stupid stereotypes and oddly enough, those same (often politically-correct) people would faint if someone said, all Blacks can dance well. That's what it all boils down to, isn't it? Americans take pride in their individualism, but when it comes to cultures or nationalities they don't understand they tend to lump everyone together. We recently saw it happen with Muslims after 9/11 and most recently with Mexicans and illegal immigration and especially now with swine flu.
In my combined Mexican/Indian heritage I've constantly had to face the stereotypes that all Indians are drunks (I only drink wine with dinner and only on occasion) and all Mexicans are lazy (which they'll complain about in one breath, then complain how illegal immigrant Mexicans will do the manual labor of two White Americans for half the price with the next breath).
You can see how it's easy for someone my age to become jaded and cynical. If racial prejudice wasn't so openly exhibited by such absolute morons, I might have lost my sense of humor long ago.

Random: I... can't stand these ads on DA. I was typing a response to you just now and had to reload to get rid of the side ad. Some ad about losing weight. Skinny girls aren't attractive. Not to me. The IMVU ads are worse. They're SO CREEPY.
Slapping sexuality on things that aren't even mildly sexual creeps me out. Big time.
On to the response:
Hwhoa, WHAT? There's a stereotype that Mexicans are lazy? I always hear the opposite. : ^ More often, anyway. "They're such diligent people." [shrugs]
I didn't get positive stereotypes until recently. You get a lot of "Your kind of people are naturally good at this" or something. Also, with things like the popular black men stereotype (you know the one), I couldn't really comprehend why those could be unwelcome. Haha. An episode of UK's The Office cleared that up.
For me, when people say, "All Asians are good at drawing," I used to laugh (and maybe I'll continue to do so - polite reflex and all) but it really does imply that I had no hand in my own skills. Sure, I may have talent. But I've heard talent is ten percent. (Or is it less than that? ^__^) One needs to practice. So it's like those people are telling me, "No big deal, you can draw. It's your ancestry." Not horribly offensive, but terribly ignorant and wrong.
Oh. I've also met quite a few Asians who can't draw and many non-Asians who can. How do you explain that? Haha. -w-
Also, don't you think it's funny that a white guy who can't drive is just an asshole and an Asian who can't drive is... Asian? HaHA!!

I may just have to gift you a subscription so you won't have to put up with those ads. There are a few perks that I think you'll think are pretty worthwhile, the best of which is the lack of pop-ups.
Yeah, stereotypes are really stupid, and even the "positive" stereotypes are pretty ridiculous. The same stereotype about Black men is held about guys with big feet. I used that to my advantage once when my seventeen year old son had some friends over to play games. One kid had a shoe big enough to use as a canoe and I told him, "Wow, dude your shoe is gigantic! You know what they say about guys with big feet, don't you?" He smiled and indicated that he knew of the "belief," giving me the thumbs up in agreement. I burst his bubble when I finished up with, "Yeah, they say guys with big feet make great clowns."

LEADloaded In reply to Decarabia69 [2009-05-12 04:13:10 +0000 UTC]
HAHAHA That. Is awesome.
I'd go for something subtler. "You know what they say about guys with big feet? They stand well. Actually, only I say that..."
Ah, the subscription would be nice, if only for the lack of pop-ups, but it would go to waste on me, I'm afraid. I've had subscriptions before and have done nothing special with them. ^__^ Thanks for the thought. Ha.

You've had dA subscriptions before? They've changed a few things recently, although I don't really take advantage of most of them. One thing about subs is that people really go crazy with the CSS "adornments" which looks nice once, then gets annoying as it adds MINUTES to their page load.

LEADloaded In reply to Decarabia69 [2009-05-12 17:53:48 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I know. Though that might be fun, it's really not something I'm apt to spend time on. I don't even know how to do it. (It's especially not worth it when I'm not going to have the sub for that long.)

Well, there are tutorials on how to use it, but I'm still resistant. Like I said, it's just annoying for those who visit your page more than once. In my opinion the novelty wears off quickly. I'm also less likely to read your journal if I have to wait for your page to load.
