Is The Warrior Code Flawed?
Suggested by Swiftstar01
Since I now Headcanon Sandstorm a Dilute Chocolate Tortie, and Leafpool a Chocolate Tortie and White, Hollyleaf can be Solid Black.
I really did like her Tortie design, but I like to try to stick to canon if I can.
WARNING, VERY OPINIONATED THOUGHTS AHEAD
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Short answer? Hell yea the code is flawed.
Long answer:
There are so many things in the code I don't agree with.
The No Mates in other clans
Female Leaders/Medicine Cats/ Deputies can't have Mate and/Or Kits (not a code, but a rule expected to be followed, so I'm adding it in here)
Kits are apprenticed at 6 Moons 'because they still drink milk'
Word of the Clan Leader is Law
And I have a personal dislike for this code, code 15: A Warrior Rejects the Soft Life of a Kittypet.
Let's go through them all shall we?
(Don't say no, cause we're gonna.)
First:
Code 1: I'm not retyping all that out, cause I'm gonna be typing a lot.
Essentially, no mates in other clans because then you become UnLoyal to your clan.
Bbbbruh
Cross Clan relationships is how we keep the Family Trees from becomeing too Incestual? Since lots of fans complain that Dust and Fern are related, because it's 'wrong' and 'immoral' or something.
I'm not going to get into the technical parts of reality here, because I don't support incest, but nature sure as hell don't care.
But since these are cats with Human-Like Morals, I think it's important to note that certain things like Incest are Taboo. EVENTUALLY Every cat in each clan is going to be related. If there's no fresh blood, and everyone is only allowed to breed within the clan, there's GOING to be incest. And if incest goes on long enough, BIRTH DEFECTS, shorten lifespans, sickly cats/kits. It's all around bad if there's no fresh blood.
So, that's a stupid rule. Really stupid.
Not a Code, but it's a Law of sorts
Medicine Cats cannot have a mate and kits, Leaders and Deputies cannot have Kits.
First off, sexist, lol. Because, what, all the Male Leaders can have a mate and kits, but Bluestar cant? Good on Leafstar for doing it herself. Good. I like her.
And besides, Thunderclan had 3 Full Medicine Cats before. If Leafpool wanted to have another litter, Jayfeather and Alderheart could take responsibility from her, and the clan wouldn't suffer.
If Bluestar was to become Deputy while Pregnant, what are they gonna demote her because she has babies? That's ridiculous. If Deputies have kits, let them have the option to Retire from the Position, or let the Leader choose a Stand In Deputy until she can come back. If the Leader is with Kitten, uhh, the Deputy? They can take place as Temporary Leader, until the actual Leader comes back? It's ridiculous.
I hate this Law, or rule or whatever you wanna call it.
It's uncalled for.
Code 5. Kits Apprenticed at 6 Moons
I think the whole ordeal was a Queen saying that a 3 month old kit is still drinking milk.
If a 12 week old kit is not weaned from milk, something is wrong with the kit.
Sure, it's normal for a kit to drink milk for a full 12 weeks if it's available, but the mother at that time usually starts weaning the kittens herself at 1 month, forcing them to eat hard food. More often than not, they are fully weaned by 8 weeks, and no longer need their mother. 8 weeks. 2 months. 2 Moons. Leaving 1 Moon to bond, and become more independent from their mother. Think of it this way, when you see kittens for rehiring or adoption, or you give kittens away, are they 6 months old?? No. They're at least 6 weeks old. Having 6 month old cats being called kits is silly, because they're almost full grown. All of Loki's kids that I saw at 5 or 6 months outgrew her. 6 month old cats are large cats, not tiny baby kits who don't know better.
Anyway, 3 months is an appropriate age to Apprentice cats, and you can fight me if you want.
Code 13: Word of the Leader is Law
Okay, let me just say Brokenstar and Tigerstar and you can tell me if that's a great idea.
It's not. Look at what happened to Riverclan when Leopardstar fell under Tigerstar's trap.
It's an aweful idea, and I think cats should be able to decide if a Leader is unworthy of being Leader, and be able to exile them if need be.
Code 15: Reject the soft life of a kittypet.
Well, isn't someone biased and closed minded?
Bruh not everyone is SUITED for life as a warrior. Wouldn't it be better that they become a kittypet, rather than feel like a complete nuisance to the clan? Ravenpaw rejected clan life because it didn't suit him.
It's very close minded and I hate it.
I understand not wanting a warrior to choose both, but if they become a kittypet, let them?? Who cares? They're gone, they're not taking prey, what's the big deal? Some cats just can't live as a warrior. If they have a disability, they can find a happy home with a Twoleg that can provide for them. If they have an incurable disease, twolegs can probably heal them
Or think of it like with Violet, Barley's sister. She was dying, and would have died, but she didn't because she became a Kittypet.
Dude, this code pisses me off.
Not everyone wants to love the same way.
Some want to lounge as a kitty pet. Let them
There's nothing wrong with it.
Stop phrasing it like it's a bad thing, it's not.
Okay, I'll end it here cause I could go on, but I'm not sure if I have any examples, you know?

I'd say 6 moons old is a good age for apprentices. Afterall, cats don't stop developing until they're roughly a year old. Even if Kittens are almost adult sized by 6 months, doesn't mean they're adults when it comes to mental maturity. I'd say 6 moons old kits are basically 12/3 year old humans - They've done most of their growing, however still defiantly not adults.

I think on the sheet I made I said 13-15 based on the age of puberty in humans and cats. Showing that they have reached that age, but would not be good to be considered functional adults.
I still think that apprenticing cats at 3 months is probably better, as it ties more closely to humans sending their kids at the age of 6 to kindergarten. And the development continues and when the cats are made warriors they're between 18-22 which is when you're actually considered an adult by society.
And some cats continue to develop until they're 2years old. It all depends on genetics, breed, and health.
It's when they become Adult Cats rather than Juniors

Thank you!
It is! But I think it's mostly outdated, and needs to be revised. I don't think cats in the past thought about Fresh Bloodlines to stop incest or birth defects. Or the fact that there can be more than one medicine cat at a time.Β
It would be interesting to see how a revision to the code could be implemented to the story

Ohhh, maybe!
I have t read anything about it what so ever, I just know it's Shadowpaw, Dovewing son, Bristlefrost, Ivypool Daughter, and Rootpaw Violetshine son. I don't know what the conflict is, or what, lol

I haven't read any of them either but I heard that Bramblestar is getting into a bit of trouble.

I visited my cousin recently and she just had to point out her six month old male kitten was going through cat puberty. I didn't need to know that, but she's like his proud mom and I'm sitting here now thinking you're pretty right considering Maxwell (her kitten) is already an adept hunter and acrobat.
Ahh, also, to some extent, I want to believe Firestar knew about the inbreeding and that was one reason he was so welcoming to newcomers no matter their background. Alsooooo, watched a vid lately that brought out a family tree and pointed out that basically almost everyone in Thunderclan is somehow related to the original cast. I dunno why I found that soo surprising.
As far as Code 15 goes I think the point IS for it to be close-minded. Or maybe more about culling 'weak' cats from the clans. I kind of like how Jake (I think?) basically questioned this whole rule, like, the environment can't feed EVERY cat so good on the humans for feeding and housing some of them.

For the longest time I agreeed with the 6 Moons thing, until I got my first actual kitten, Loki. I found her at a month old, and she weaned herself between 6 and 7 weeks, despite me always offering her formula. At 4 months she beat up my 2 year old cat to the point where he meowed to submit. (Doesn't stop him from starting play fights now, lol) and she's a petite cat. She only matured to half his size.
It gave me the realization that 4 month old kittens can totally beat up an adult cat if they know how to. Making me believe Brokenstar was Right, lol
I feel like Firestar as a Kittypet would probably know the most about incest. I headcanon his father as a Somali Show Cat Stud. So I'm sure cats around the area would know a little about it. I headcanon that a lot of kittypets are purebred, or hybrids.
Firestar secretly bringing in new blood is a sweet and awesome idea!
Oh heck yeah go jake lol
I still think that it should always be an option for cats that just can't live in the wild anymore. I totally would have suggested Snowkit, Featherkit, and Briarlight be taken to become Kittypets of the clans were having a difficult time keeping them safe and healthy.
