Reverend is the star of hope for Gertrude Fairfax Memorial stables. Though young and shy, he carries the blood of stamping warhorses, and triumphal show-ring veterans. Eye-catching, with two scarlet enigmas gracing his pearlescent coat, Reverend is a promising stud.

Ironically, he has never been broken in, himself. The man who sold him to me seemed that sort of romantic and impractical soul, never deigning to kill a spider nor mar a blank piece of paper.

Sometimes I watch Reverend galloping up and down the hills, though, and wonder if the man had a point.
