Hoary stock in ink

A few years ago my brother gave me a hoary stock, it didn’t last long; that's the problem with new plants, the lack of knowledge about them makes them prone to be killed. In the end I kept its distinctive scent as a souvenir.

At the start of 2024, one of my resolutions was to come back to upload artworks on social media. To mark the new beginning, I opted for a more personal work, my name (Alhelí/hoary stock in spanish), myself. The internal struggle called design process led me to become obsessed interested in researching what is a hoary stock.
I got to sail the seas of scientific terminology, meaning of flowers, biological characteristics and even a little bit of arabic, the result left more questions than answers.

Hoary stocks can be single or double, they can be wild or cultivated. They reflect fidelity in the adverse, perpetual beauty, simplicity, its geographical origin coincides with the origin of the word in Spanish, the mediterranean; the arabic, some say it means "the fragrance", " the best", "the moon", "the sweet". It comes in different colors, how did it get to Mexico? How did a guy come up with the idea of writing the song "Capullito de Alhelí (Little cocoon of Hoary stock)". More and more questions...
What is a hoary stock?! I hope someday to be able to answer, one more doubt that will remain in the inkpot.
