I was fortunate enough to see an exhibition here of 20th century Russian vanguard art, including Malevich and Kandinsky, about 2 years ago.
Yes, they had it going on, until Communism.

Communism didn't help the art out too much, although Soviet Russia did make some pretty good movies along the way. Mosfilm was nuts, they spared no expense!
