Description This is how I think the Pokemon in the 'gender unknown egg group' (or all Pokemon in general) are tricked into breeding with Ditto. If you don't know, Pokemon in this egg group can only breed with Ditto. They can't even breed with their own kind! Just imagine their happiness when they actually produce an egg.Β

Anyway, it's sad that Ditto can't breed with other Dittos.

can you breed legendarys? Because I notice peopleon the GTS in Pokemon games have like level 10 legendary Pokemon

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Just-A-Shiny-Mudkip In reply to porgonz [2015-01-11 13:15:35 +0000 UTC]

No you can't breed legendaries because that would be unfair. The people who have level 10 legends are most likely using Action Replay.
But if you breed a Manaphy with a Ditto they can produce a Phione.

The legendary could have been recieved at some special event as well.

So you can only get a Phione not a Manaphy and can you breed Manaphy and a Phione

YellowRaichu In reply to porgonz [2015-01-15 13:10:49 +0000 UTC]

Nope, Manaphy can only breed with a Ditto to produce a Phione Egg. Kinda weird, in that regard...

I always wondered, if Ditto can't breed with Ditto, how are new ditto made?

Bek359 In reply to jolan5 [2015-04-06 00:22:46 +0000 UTC]

I've seen speculation that the first Ditto were the by-products of the experiments to clone Mew that led to the creation of Mewtwo. Would explain the similar coloring and why they're the only two mons that can use Transform, and why in Yellow they're only found in the labs used to create Mewtwo and the lair of Mewtwo. If I think about it, Ditto would then serve as an interesting example of how sometimes scientific "failures" actually aren't. Ditto may be complete trash as a battler, but its breeding ability is incredibly useful.

ControlledpuppetV2 In reply to Bek359 [2015-04-06 02:42:12 +0000 UTC]

But that doesn't really answer how new ones are made if the labs are destroyed.

My best guess is budding or binary fission. Not a terribly original guess, but it's the best I got.

Binary fission

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

jolan5 In reply to Wongolini [2015-01-01 01:15:29 +0000 UTC]

I googled it, and my first thought was, "Shouldn't there be like a million of the little buuggers around then?"
And then I thought, "Well yeah, there are. Ever deplete an area of pokemon by catching them all? Can't be done."
So yeah. Binary fission is very possible.

I've seen worse done. Plus, it at least cheers them up. The reactions upon it 'un-transforming' vary. Most are okay with it, some get angry, others cry a bit (either out of happiness or sadness).

I've seen one occasion in which a Nidoking was quick to realize it was a Ditto. To this day, I still have no idea where the chainsaw came from. He chopped that Ditto in two.Β
But it gets weirder. Because Dittos are really little more then molten goo, he cut the Ditto in half and the results were...weird. Long story short, the Ditto survived, and the Nidoking unintended-ly turned one Ditto into two. Literally it became two Ditto. They even had separate natures. Freakin' crazy.

I never understood why genderless pokemon can't just breed with each other.

I mean they have to reproduce someway and ditto rarely lives in the same places as they do.

Male-only-pokemon have it even worse, since they can breed with other pokemon, but they won't reproduce anyway.

Unless the fans refer to the whole being failed mew clones thing, which in THAT case, humanity is the key to preventing ditto extinction...Dittos are screwed...

Dittos change their D.N.A. when they transform but even if the other Pokemon doesn't have genes for transforming, they keep that, so a transformed Ditto should still have Ditto traits.

Anyway, Dittos can just screw each other in their base, slime form. Being genderless just means no matter which Ditto you pick, you'll be okay in the birth department
