Description
This is how I think the Pokemon in the 'gender unknown egg group' (or all Pokemon in general) are tricked into breeding with Ditto. If you don't know, Pokemon in this egg group can only breed with Ditto. They can't even breed with their own kind! Just imagine their happiness when they actually produce an egg.Anyway, it's sad that Ditto can't breed with other Dittos.

To be exact, you're right if we're talking 2nd gen. See it depends on which game you're using. If I remember correctly (long time), in the original Silver, Gold and Crystal versions (the games that introduced breeding) you can, but not in anything afterwards.
It likely has something to do with the fact that breeding for decent IVs would be a lot more simple with a Ditto with good IVs.
