Clank, clank, clank. Heavy breathing. The constant humming of the exoskeleton was the only comfort. The Hellwalker Steps through the ruins which slowly crumble in the pungent smoke. The air is thick with death from the sudden ambush that just took place.
His Unit had been on the constant move for several months now and it had taken its toll.
He spots movement out of the corner of his eye. He ducks to the side out of view. With his back to a pillar he peers around the side. His HUD detects one life form 150yards away. Was he spotted? He was not sure.
If it was not for the exhaust manifold malfunctioning forcing him to stay behind just hours earlier he would have had the same fate as his comrades now lying in the mud at his feet. His blood now boiled with revenge.
He grits his teeth and dashes to the next pillar blasting a clip through the ever increasing smoke and dust. A reply of bullets sprayed around him from the embankment just ahead.
The last few weeks his unit were extremely low on supplies and spar parts. They were trained well and improvised and made good with what they had. This was due to several enemy assaults in this sector that specifically targeted communications.
The Hellwalker checks his weapon. Damn! Down to his last clip. Its now or never he thought to himself. He breaths deeply and rises from the temporary cover and strides purposefully towards the embankment. The enemy jumps from its hiding spot with guns blazing. It is also an exoskeleton but leaner and faster compared to the Hellwakers heavy suit. The gap between them quickly closes. Bullets ricocheted off the Hellwalkers battered amour. He aims and misses. The enemy dodges from side to side using its agility against the sturdy Hellwalker. The Hellwalker with a now empty gun the enemy launches itself off rubble of a broken wall on top of the Hellwalker. The Hellwalker extends a hidden blade from his weaponised arm just in time as they both collided with a raw clap of shattering amour.
The Hellwalker, still alive under the limp mass of the enemy exoskeleton. He pushes it off to one side and releasing the blade from the foreign machinery. As the haze waftes over the sore earth the Hellwalker departs without a sound. Little did he realize that the true battle has just begun.
