I loved working on this book. De Matteis and I had a great chemistry, often seeming to read each others minds. I wish it had survived longer. They predicted a 20,000 copy launch. We got 40,000. When sales dropped to 20,000 over the run they decided to cancel. Go figure!I really like the Hulk in this piece...

I agree with you about your inking it is very expressive here..matches the seriousness,the tension,and the importance of the event unfolding reflecting the characters moods and creating the atmosphere the story calls for and needs to be as powerful as it is.

all the characters look great here! The Hulk inks have a Deodato jnr feel to them (IMHO). All I can say is... PLEASE WORK FOR MARVEL AGAIN SOON!!!!!

this rocks! I also liked that manthing art you did for marvel black and white, i appreciated your art more without color. your one of the few artists i know whose work can stand on its own, even looks best without color.

I love how you instantly defend it as though I was trying to deride it somehow. You're either overly modest or overly self-conscious. I rather envy your inking. I've never had much skill with brush and ink, I just can't control it. I was just having a discussion with a fellow deviant of some talent about the inking in my work and he noted it as very american-comicbook and that it needed color to work, but personally I look at inking like yours and I'd never want to see it in color. So I figure I just need to keep working at figuring out the give and take of it all.

LOL! Man, I never meant to come over as defensive! During that run I got a lot of flack for my "lazy" or "sloppy" inks, which I thought were "expressive". Hey, maybe you're right. Damn, these issues run deep!
Seriously though, knowing the industry as I do, it's stuff you have to consider if you want to survive in it.
Interestingly almost without exception people like my stuff better in black and white.
