Description
Short looping animation of my characters from a hopefully upcoming comic. Also my first shot at animating! (jesus christ hand drawn animation takes so long) It's a bit glitchy and I feel like the motion is.. unrealistic? Any tips/what do you think?

This looks so good, I think like you said in the description the movement is kind of unrealistic but I think it works really well with the style you've chosen. Personally watching this makes me want to go practice animation!

Hello there mate, I'm from And I will try my best to critique your artwork.
As far the animation goes, it does look smooth even though there only around 10 frames or so but it kinda looks unnatural when it looped, however.
The design of the characters is really cute and simple. The clothes that you choose for the character is perfect. The simple artstyle is obviously worked well especially on these animation type, so yeah I would suggest to do that when trying to animating stuff. The lineart is well drawn. If you wanted a smooth animation I would suggest to put another frame between another frame. Even though there no shading or any color, it still pleasant to look at.
Because of such a simple art, there nothing much else to say other than good job on these mate. It's look good and nice. The character is cute and all. The animation is almost smooth as a butter. The only tips I could give you is to try to animate some other movement like blinking eye, moving arms or simply makes a character smiling. When you already getting good at animating, maybe you could try to color it as well. Now that would be an amazing animation. Well that's all I got, hope this is helpful though!

This is such a sweet animation
Even though the motion is unrealistic, it looks stylistic
which in turn looks just as nice
very nice considering it's a first try

That really means a lot coming from you ^w^
I’m honestly wondering how professionals and hobbyists do it now, since I’ve seen a lot of animations on youtube that are a couple minutes long and it’s so smooth and all colored! My head hurts thinking about how long those must take, so at the very least this has made me appreciate animation more.
I used photoshop CS6, there’s a timeline feature that lets you order and play frames. It’s not an animation program of course so I had to hand draw everything (as opposed to doing each element seperately).
Have you ever animated before?

Oh thanks Well yes you have to REALLY like it, that's probably why I haven't done it much lol. I also always end up doing the same thing - a stick man portrait either stabbing himself with a sword or shooting himself in the head...or both XD. I know.
I tried Photoshop as well, still takes forevverrr....But yes it's nicely laid out I Agree. I've never animated anyting substantial only in ps or equivalent. It would be cool but it takes so long. I actually like the short ones like you did, it would be cool to have in like an ebook or something - with a story or something.

Yess I like the idea of small animations with ebooks too. I might try something called rotoscoping (tracing over a video frame by frame to make an animation) just to study motion, like running and wind blowing things.
I'd want to see your animations, are they on your DA?

Sorry i'm super busy, That sounds like a really good exercise! but you need patience for it You would always do rough sketches of each movement frame - to get the idea and then you may understand it better cause the process is also not so long.
oh no lol mine are terrible, I didn't put them anywhere !

hm maybe you can have the floaty one move around more, like in a zigzaggy pattern instead of just moving exactly like the clothes ovo? or.. you can keep it moving along with the wind but put it in a diff position and animate it differently like.. this'll prolly be difficult but maybe try animating it kinda behind her head, and the curve of it's floatiness? less steep the hand looks like it could be positioned a bit farther to the right side (her left side) and let's say the hand seems too far away, you can just try adding her arm and connecting it to the sleeve, hm you would have to change the position of the music player if you did that tho-- and the wire
haa i'd say just experiment more, maybe others will come up with better ideas~
