Faking screentones like in Mangas/Comics isn't that hard...once you know the tricks*~*You have to full-view it to see the whole thing.*~*
I mainly did this version as an experiment.
I use computer patterns in my art class and some people were asking me how
I threw this together as a beta version.
I want to see if you people can understand it so that I can show it to the people who originally asked.
Of course this is for your benefit as well *wink*
It is for Photoshop 7 since I don't know how the other versions work

this realy helps.. i was wondering how to get my tones there
So i find a tone
Then i go to mypc/pfile/blah/adobe/cs3/blah/blah/patterns/
Then copy paste em in..
But now i can use them

Thanks for the info! I wish Photoshop has a higher resolution pattern preview than 'large thumbnail' since all those dot patterns get aliased into really funky previews.

I kind of get it, kind of don't get it, I get it because i have used photoshop for years so I know what you are talking about. I don't get it how the first screen tone set was made. You said get some pictures, but from the example I see, they are already somewhat pixelized, so that doesn't help in the transition of this tutorial.
And yes... the whole layout is very energetic, but got too messy to be directional. If you want to play around, that's fine... just know when you play around, a thing such as tutorials is still better when people can see and easily understand it.
And don't use stick figure for example.... that just doesn't stand out convincing.
