Description It could be his rejection and defeat, or it could be the first time he fell in love with Sarah. Both are painful, thrilling falls. A little melodramatic for me, but it gets the point across. (I'm lame!)

I'm stuck on that long panel look. This whole thing was an excuse to draw the animal bones on the shoulders of Jareth's owl coat in the last act of Labyrinth, and you can't see much of them. I want to do another.

This one was frustrating and I don't know how I feel about it. I did it during a bad cold, so I was cranky and stuffy and inclined to half-ass it. Goddamn, I don't know what I was thinking with all the fabric. Never again, unless I get some skills.

The title kind of needs explaining; I've been really heartbroken twice in my life, and both times the only thing that made me feel better was listening to "Drowndeep: Hula" by Maxwell. It's an undulating, underwater song, appropriately embryonic, like a good Codeine fog. It put a new feeling to the word "hula".

materials: ink and Letraset illustration marker on bristol, plus a touch of the ol' PS
music: Maxwell, "Drowndeep: Hula"

They keep coming and I keep faving because your Labrynth arts rawk!
I think the fabric was successful; you can tell it's fabric but it also looks like landmasses encircling and trapping him. Kind of relates, yes?

Gah! Last time I tried to draw him, I got more "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" than Ziggy, or the King of the Goblins.

Jealousy!

He is a difficult snot, and you really have to wrestle him into it. Keep trying!

Sad and beautiful. It reminds me a little of Swan Lake (tragic ending, bird/person, a hint of ballet tights).

I wish I looked this lovely during heartbreak, but usually there's just snot and crying and moping around the house in cat-print pajamas.

That's a hugely complimentary analogy. Thank you.

Whoa. For being delirious with a cold this is pretty good! Even if you weren't sick I can't see how you'd improve upon this because I think it's absolutely loverly! ... I hope you didn't get offended by that. Haha. We are all our own toughest critics I suppose... unless your Ryan Seacrest. Good grief is that man full of himself....

ANYHOO! Like I said, I think it's great!

Thank you, my dear! I'm glad you like it.

That makes me love you even more! Haha. He's the announcer guy (I'm sure he has a more technical job title....) on 'American Idol'. Blech. Not that I really watch the show... so maybe I shouldn't complain so much.

Arrows of Luv. Lovesick or heartbroken? Your call.

nightroads-child In reply to lily-fox [2008-01-03 06:34:48 +0000 UTC]

heartbroken, Sarah should have left Toby with Jareth. I mean it's not like he was really going to turn him into a goblin right,Jareth's too soft for that and since he loved her so much he probably wouldn't have if she didn't defeat him he would have made her his queen and toby his kid how knows i mean I wish they made a second movie.

lily-fox In reply to nightroads-child [2008-01-03 15:57:40 +0000 UTC]

Ha ha, somehow I don't think that's what would have happened... Can you really imagine a relationship with Jareth? What happens when you get that urge to put on some Mariah Carey and dance around in your socks and panties? Or bake some brownies? Or just sit around and be a loaf? Life with Jareth wouldn't leave room for being a well-adjusted young woman.

nightroads-child In reply to lily-fox [2008-01-03 18:10:44 +0000 UTC]

I don't know about that. He sounds like the kind of guy that would make a great father and husband if you know what i mean. I would certanly be Jareth's girl if only is kingdom didn't have the bog of eternal steanch and a dieing laybrinth with large pieaces of wood every where. My bog is the bog of eternal fire and my castle is like the one off of "Lord of the Rings" the bad guys castleof Mordor along with the two of the towers of power and death as i call them. And of corse the big bad arse Black gate.Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Nevertheless Jareth is cool.

You kill me, Lily! I think fabric free-flowing is very hard to depict. I think you struggled with it quite admirably. I am very in love with the long panel format too -- it reminds me so much of stained glass windows or a Mucha illustration (two of my most favorite things in the whole wide world).

*sigh* I am SO HAPPY that somebody got you into Bowie. I have been loving all these pieces (finally got around to favoriting them!); your art is so damn pretty. Bowie's a hard man to capture on paper! It's impressive, and you just keep on doing it.

I was really hoping you'd get to Labyrinth, too. Oh man. Your Jareth is fantastic, and your Sarah really looks like herself as well. The "feathers" piece was just . . . guh. This one is also gorgeous; just brimming over with emotion.

I am gushing. Sorry. Just, YAY. Thank you for drawing these. Apologies for playing catch-up all in one comment like this.
