It was a stormy but quiet evening in Lunekira Village. Though it wasn't one of those usual rainstorms. Instead, there were tons of small, cold but pretty white cotton spores restlessly falling softly from the pitch-black night sky.
According to most villagers from different towns, they were called " sunodrops ". We humans prefer calling them " snowflakes ".
While some villagers were walking outside, admiring the gorgeous, white spectacle, others stayed in their houses, sitting before their fireplace, if they weren't preparing some warm scarves as well as supplies for the cold season approaching.
Some preferred writing about the newly came weather and maybe even study it.

Of course, that was for the majority of the village's residents, and surely there was at least one family who didn't care about the sunodrops at all, as if they saw those falling cotton balls every day.
These people were the only two members of the Vaokan family. Of course, it was the well known scientist, Iris Vaokan, and her daughter, Kagura. Both of them were at the table, as the child looked sort of tense.
She was desperately reading a pile of books, quickly finishing them one after another, sighing and sipping hot chocolate from her cup every now and then.

" I've been wondering for a while, sweetie..." Iris sipped from hers. With her being blind, she couldn't know what her daughter was doing as she was drinking.

" Is something the matter ? I've been hearing a lot of sighing from you since we sat. "

Kagura looked at her mother, then at the pile of job list books she just read. Apparently, the young girl was extremely bored and wanted to do something out of her life. But not all those usual walks in Twilight forest, picking Citrukin, a kind
of fruit only found in the deepest part of the woods in order to distribute them to their fellow Phantasma, dead spirits inhabiting Undead-Heart, the ghost village. She wanted to do something new instead.

" I wish I could have some ideas...I mean, I don't know what I can do later as a job. Get what I mean, Mama ? "

" Kagura, "Mom" is okay, but "Mama" is not tolerated in my language. But, I get what you mean, darling." She sipped from her cup once again. " We all have a time where we want to grow up, do we ? Let's see...not something too hard for you, right ? "

" Yep. I don't plan on being a scientist like you, for example... "

" And why is that, sweetie ? "

" Because being one looks like you have to be the most intelligent person of all. It really bugs me and well, I just know that an 11 year-old kid like me would never succeed in being one. " Kagura said, looking somewhat irritated. Her eyes
were starting to grow meaner, almost looking as if they were glaring. Her mother was never really that impressed. Not only because she couldn't see her daughter's face, but also because she knew they both have small anger issues. Iris kept
drinking, soon finishing her cup. " I wonder if they all have some kind of secret for being that smart and...heh. " Kagura continued. " Do they eat something special--did YOU eat something special, Ma...Mom ? "

A long pause then came up. It was almost as if Kagura had said something she shouldn't have. Did she ? Or did Iris really eat something weird to become the scientist she was ? All those questions were flowing through in the furry reptile's head.

" Haha...Kagura, you'll always be my funny child. " Iris smiled, pouring herself a second cup of coffee as her daughter looked at her with a somewhat funny, but let's say, idiotic look on her face. " Being a scientist isn't any question of eating
weird things or suddenly being really intelligent. You have to study hard, have a good sense of logic...Normal stuff like that. Anyone could make it if they really wanted to, if you ask me. Anyone who is good in that domain, that is. It all depends of
your potential and capacities...See what I mean ? " She sipped.

Kagura was completely out of this world, though. Not because she didn't listen to her mother, in the contrary. Kagura's always loved to listen to her mother's stories, even if sometimes, they were a little complicated. But this time was worse.
No special food, but STUDYING ? Lunekira, as well the rest of Ketsurai, the dimension in which they all live, didn't have any places to study. Sure, they had some libraries, what with all those small villages, they couldn't really fond any schools.
People would all get in the same town, what would make nothing but a big disorder all over the place. But Kagura only cared about the studying part. Her mother has almost made her want to do the same job as hers, being a scientist and all.
But she lost her hungriness for trying and decided to give up. The idea of studying and reading lots of complicated books in her free time just didn't get to her. She disliked it to her full.

" Mom, I don't know how you managed to become the person you are right now. You're just...plain awesome! I mean...you did create a lot of stuff, like our coffee blending machine and all those tools hanging on the wall..You made them all, didn't
you ? " Kagura suddenly looked really amazed by all her mother's creations and tools. Iris laughed, then patted on her daughter's head.

" Really ? Why thank you much, sweetie...You know, I did all this because I've been studying a lot ~. " Another pause. " I love you so much, darling. Please don't ever change. "

<< Well, this is getting me nowhere fast... >>, Kagura then thought, barely even paying attention. " I love you too, Mom...Can you now help me out, pretty please ? " She gently asked in return.

Iris stopped for a moment.

" ...Oh, right ! Something different !..." She sipped from her second coffee cup. " Heh, sorry, Kagura...! Let me think about it a few seconds..."

A few minutes passed. Kagura impatiently drank her hot chocolate, waiting for her mother's response. What could it possibly be, she was wondering...That's when Iris smirked the biggest smirk she ever smirked before her daughter, who was kind of intimidated.

" First things first, Kagura.." She started. " Whatever you do in life, there will always be two important duties you'll have to fulfill. " Kagura looked at her mother as if she was telling a ghost story. " You must help the people around you and
most importantly, and that's what everyone should do..." She took a long sip of coffee just to put a little feeling of suspense to her sayings, making Kagura a little irritated. She stared at her mother with sinister eyes during the entire sip, displeased.

" Kagura, you must protect what you love. Whatever it is, save it from anything and everything that would damage it. "

When she heard those words, Kagura pondered. Did that mean she had to protect her mother ? In other words, she didn't really " love " anything else. She didn't have any friends in Lunekira, but she was kind of happy she didn't.
She already had her dear mother, after all.

" ...I see. " She responded. " But what else should I protect if I already have you, Mom ? "

Iris smiled, but soon stopped, pondering in turn. After a quiet moment, Iris stared in Kagura' s direction with a weird, hesitating look on her face. It was as if she was hiding something from her for a while. She waited.

" You'll have to develop the answer to that question on your own, Kagura. But that doesn't mean you can't have any help from what is within your reach. " She sneered.

" Mom, why do I have the feeling that we're having a grown-up discussion, tell me ? "

" Why, my dear ? Is there something you don't understand ? "

When she heard these words, Kagura was confused. Did she understand everything or not ? This was actually the first time she had a talk like this one with her mother in ages. In return, Iris made another little sneer, before another
long pause came up. As her daughter bought some time to think hard about everything they have talked about so far, she hesitated.

" Kagura, would you like to play a little game with me ? Just the two of us ? "

" ....Huh, wait, What sort of games, Mom ? "

" It's like a guessing game, but mixed along with....huh...hm. You know, those role playing games? For example, you're the hero who tries to defeat me, the villain. "

Exhilarated, Kagura laughed. " You, a meanie ?! Hahahahahaha ! It's hard to picture. "

" In that game, besides being the 'hero', you will develop many new capacities along with new hopes, new interests, finding what you wish to protect..." She smiled. " That way, you might even know what you want to do as a job when you grow up. "

Iris had made her daughter the happiest she could be. The idea of playing an exciting looking game with her mother had really got to her, with her alway working away, doing science and experiments, as she had always said. Kagura often wondered
what kind of experiments her mother made. New food and liquids ? Medecine ? She once even wondered if she ever made creatures. Robots, to be exact. And if Iris ever did, she'd love to see them. But at the moment, Kagura was only thrilled about
the game. She really loved how her mother tried to help her whenever she was stuck. Playing games, having weird talks, etc...She found that truly original.

" H-how do we start playing ?! " She joyfully asked, making Iris smile a yellow smile. A nice, long smile showing all of her sharp fangs.

" Well, darling..let's say that the game shall only start at the moment you find out what I, the villain, am up to... "

This is actually the first time I ever write a story like this one in english omg XD No second parts in those things I'll keep doing, but how was it ? e3e,,,
Should I continue making these? eDe Cuz they're pretty important explanations for some concepts ( though I'm trying not to spoil too much ) XDD Think of this writing I'm making as promos before the comic is out. ewe
