Description
"Congratulations to all those who made it to Round 2!"Charpie raised up her glass of wine, along with the other contestants who were in the hotel bar that night. Not that Charpie really felt she belonged there. It was only by the skin of her teeth did she manage to win her first round. All thanks belonging to Louie, and very little to her skill. She had never felt so embarrassed. It was a series of stupid mistakes that took out her first pokemon, Loretta, and while Louie handled the Dusknoir with ease, he nearly fainted from the damage taken by Keani's psychopath Starmie.
Charpie took a long sip of wine. She would need to really improve her trainer skills if she wanted to even think of feeling confident about passing on past Round 2.
"Don't forget to grab your free Bibarel Berry Company shirt, Round 1 edition only available while supplies last! I only have about two shirts left!"
"Well at least one of us is having fun," Charpie grumbled, as she motioned for the bartender to pour her more wine. Shaina couldn't have been happier. As soon as it was declared that Charpie had won the match, the promised paraphernalia started flying off the table. Shaina was even able to sign up one or two new customers up, making her all the more happier than miserable her best friend.
"Oh, mind if I sit here?"
Charpie carelessly gestured to the free spot and she sipped more of her beverage. "Be my guest," she said, somewhat dryly, downing the entire glass.
"I don't think I've ever seen anyone drinkatized a glass like that."
Charpie glanced over, confused. "Wait…what? Oh.." It took her a moment, but she recognized the guy sitting down. He was standing next to her during the round one orientation, and though they only talked very briefly, she remembered his name was Knight. She was also pretty sure that he had made it to the next round. "Hey Knight. You won your round, right?"
Knight grinned. "Absotivemently."
Charpie laughed, gesturing for yet another glass. "Would you like one?" She asked Knight.
"No thanks, I don't drinkglub alcohol."
Charpie snorted, leaning on her elbow. "Not a bad idea."
Knight lifted an eyebrow. "You can always stop now."
Charpie shook her head. "Not tonight. It's been one of those weeks." She brought her newly refilled glass closer to her. "So, how was your match?" she asked.
"Great." Knight weakly smiled. "I saw yours, you probably shouldn't ha-"
Charpie quickly cut him off. "No need to remind me…I plan on spending between now and Round 2 training my ass off so it doesn't happen again." She quickly took another gulp.
"Don't be too hard on yourself."
"You were there. It was pretty damn bad." Charpie frowned. She usually wasn't this curt when she met new people and Knight was trying to be friendly. Even though she was in a bad mood, and incredibly stressed on top of that, it didn't give her an excuse to be rude especially if he was being so nice. She glanced over at Knight, who was ordering a root beer.
And cute, she added to herself.
Charpie sighed, and pushed away her glass of wine. "I'm sorry."
Knight looked back at her. "Hm?"
Charpie gave him an apologetic smile. "I didn't mean to be rude. Can we start over?" She adjusted her chair so that she was facing him. "My name's Charpie and I'm from Johto," she said, sticking her hand out.
Knight smiled back, accepting her hand. "I'm Markus Knight, not from Johto. It's nice to meet you," he said with a light shake.
Charpie beamed back and gave it a light squeeze. "It's very nice to meet you."
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Shaina looked over Charpie, more specifically, the shirt she was wearing. "Not bad if I do say so myself."
Charpie sighed, removing her glasses to rub her tired eyes. "Well you know…as long as her highness is pleased, that's all that matters."
Shaina ignored the intended sarcasm. "I still say you should've worn the hat."
"Oh hell no," she said, replacing her glasses. "I'll just stick with the shirt this time around. It's pretty cute after all." She meant it too. Charpie felt better about this BBC shirt design for this round. Traded in was the creepy looking (at least in Charpie's honest opinion) Bibarel for a more simple design that said "Berry Berry Delicious" with a cute pattern of assorted berries on the front.
Shaina nodded as she removed her jacket, revealing another type of BBC shirt. "Yeah, I figure we move a step up with each round and since we got here early, everyone will get a chance to see the display. And Ellie for that fact." Charpie glanced over to the large Bibarel Berry Display at the side of the lake, where a very happy Ellie was bouncing around in her custom BBC bikini top and beach shorts, waving a sign with the company name on it. The worse thing was that Loretta was right next to her, dressed in the exact same thing.
Charpie shuddered. "Compared to that, the hat doesn't seem so bad now…." She muttered to herself.
"Hmm?" Shaina asked, turning her attention away from her hard work.
"Nothing. Just complaining at how early it is. No one told us we had to get here five minutes after the Round 2 text was sent out at freaking 6:45am…."
Shaina lifted an eyebrow. "Well no one told you to stay up late talking with a certain someone after a full day of training, for the third time in a row."
Touché.
Charpie stuck her tongue out as her best demonstration of maturity. She couldn't help it if she actually got along with Knight. He was an interesting guy if not a bit silly, and their conversations were equally intriguing. Something that was very much welcomed by Charpie. She couldn't help but smile, the entire trip was actually starting to look a little brighter thanks to him.
Shaina smirked at Charpie's reaction but then noticed something behind her. "Oh, speak of the devil."
Charpie turned around in time to see Knight waving at her. "Morning!"
She would have said something back, expect that she was too busy staring at his outfit. While he was donning his trademark Umbreon jacket, Knight was covered head to toe in Bibarel Berry Company merchandise. Charpie could feel the parade of eye ticks approaching.
She was going to kill Shaina.
