Public Guard Force.A (fictional) armed security force tasked with guarding important public buildings and other high security sites (nuclear power stations, airports etc.) The specialist force would allow the police to re-deploy officers presently tasked with these duties to law enforcement and anti-terrorist duties.
[I just wanted to draw a H&K MP5 and an assault vest.]

knowing the quality of our politicians, if the idea of a national armed security force was ever introduced in this country they'd likely fuck it up royally. An army of underpaid, under-trained G4S security guards, or police community support officers, armed with non-lethal baton guns would be the likely result.

I totally agree. Or, more realistically knowing what they're like, it will become a highly politicised force where people's political alignment affects their membership. See New York Police in the 19th and early 20th Centuries!
