Description I thought it was over already
that I was okay with it, okay with everything
and still when I see all these photos
I think of you fondly
feeling the same way I used to
and I am glad I do

March 2006
Suomenlinna

I might use this as reference in my current painting... (it's a winter scene)

sparse and lonely and I agree with your colour choice, it emphasises the whites and the range of greys. Nice

Thank you.

It's actually pretty funny how lonely this looks because the day I took this was a lovely one and not lonely at all. That's just in my mind though.

Thank you.

I thought of submitting the full coloured version but
the yellow of the straws was maybe a bit too strong
to make the effect I wanted them to.

Looks cold and wind-swept, and the palette of whitish colors makes it look special. Snowy. Even the sky and the plain (ocean?) in the background seems to bear snow. Was the grass as silvery-white, or did you change it?
Frankly, I don't understand the title, though. Feeling cold, wind-swept and snowy?

It's the Baltic Sea in the background and yes, it was covered with ice and snow. I desaturated the colours, the straws are almost bright yellow in reality. I just liked it more this way.

The title is actually a conceptual one because I have some memories related to this particular shot. So it's about that I still feel the same way as I did when I took this.

Thank you for the thorough comment!

It looks like a plain, but I vaguely remember Suomenlinna being an island near Helsinki. I don't know the original, but seems it was a very good choice to desaturate i, 'cos the picture looks good as it is. But it isn't all the way BW, is it?

I see. Then the title doesn't have some obvious meaning that I overlooked ;]

Yes, it's an old sea fortress near Helsinki. Takes about 15 minutes to go there by ferry.

And yes, the colours are "tarnished" so it's like desaturating but not all the way to b/w. The original shot had actually quite bright colours.

The pale tones looks really good in this one. I don't look as "desaturated" as many other more or less colorless shots do... I think you've captured frozen moment in a good way.

I just thought this was a picture of plants in the snow, but then I realized there was actually a sky. Heh, go me. Other than the above, I think it portrays well a temperament but still quite subtle windy weather.

And there is the sea too.

Thank you for the comment, I know this is not a very special photo to anyone else except for me so I'm glad someone was active enough to comment on it.
