Hello your work is splendid and make me think about the paint of Alfons Mucha a Czechoslovak painter.

I think it is one of the best portraits featured in the calendar! the movement of her hair is just awesome btw, which color do you use to shade white flowers?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to JannaFairyArt [2010-11-19 01:28:44 +0000 UTC]

ah thanks i agree with you!

the flowers are a mixture of blue, purple and in some areas yellowish brown. so it becomes a rather colorful gray, really. the exact colors are grumbacher indigo- and a standard deep violet the brown is a burnt umber and the yellow is yellow ocher. I mix them in varying amounts, mostly the blue and purple colors.

then you used the same colors as I did with the difference that I use cobalt blue instead of indigo.. well I don't get grey ...perhaps I should try it your way I need more practice painting anything "white"...

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to JannaFairyArt [2010-11-21 16:37:06 +0000 UTC]

yeah colbalt is too bright for my purposes when i want it to be more neutral. indigo is a very dark blue and also VERY permanent so you have to be careful with it lol. but its ont of my favorite colors to use

So pretty! I have a question though...The outlining of her hair and the flowers and stuff... did you paint those in as well or did you draw those in with brownish ink?? Just wondering, I'm learning watercolors and want to know how people do things

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LiquidFaeStudios In reply to clockwork-madness [2010-11-06 14:16:03 +0000 UTC]

I painted them. I have a strict no ink policy except in special cases when I'm doing a very dark piece that involves a lot of BLACK - ink can give a slightly darker color than black watercolor and is also permanent and will not wash away. But for lining, I never use ink - nor do i ever use pens. its all brushwork (even my signature ) I can only think of one piece i've used ink in in years.... everything else black watercolor has sufficed just fine. :3

lol wow that's so crazy
I figured it was all brushwork but i wanted to see. It's very beautiful in any case.
Thanks so much for answering me ^__^
